I am so completely looking forward to the next four years. I guess that is the infinite optimistic in me showing through. I think this question is asking about the new president. I did not vote for Obama because the things he spoke of were vague or weird in my eyes but I am looking forward to this new man in an old office, it seems as if anything is the change we need.
I was talking to my husband about how many people did not vote for Pres-Obama because they could just see him talking off the platform mask and being a totally different creature and how dangerous and evil this fact could be. Then we moved onto how this could be true for any candidate and how it looks things are going to be during the next term. Then we went on to joke that from the looks of it maybe next election season this Mr. President will run as a conservative because we can already tell he is seeing the light and logic of conservative ways.
Anyway I am glad for this poll and this new re-beginning because we, as Americans, are so ready for change and a new plan.... even if this new plan is the same as the old one with a different outlook.
Good luck to all of us and remember we create our own misery.

I have been listening to Obama for a year now and I have no concrete idea what he plans to do. I have heard a lot of vague references to change but his actual plans for change seem to change themselves depending on what audience he is pandering speaking too.
I suspect I am not going to like the change based on his actual voting record in the Senate. He is a brilliant speaker and has a history of talking the conservative game while voting for the liberal game.
For starters, he plans to spend almost a trillion dollars which the Congressional Budget Office says is going to be largely ineffective as a stimulous because it won't actually get spent for two years at least. That is always how stimulous spending (doesn't) work and we have understood that for decades yet we are repeating a mistake from the 1970's. Just three years ago Democrats were howling about deficits but since they gained control of Congress in 2006 they just keep getting worse. They would be a lot worse now if Bush had not finally found his veto pen and I'm afraid that Obama won't have the guts to buck Congress and control the spending which he basically favors.
You young people have voted yourselves a disaster which you'll spend most of your working careers paying for. I'm glad I have made my money and will soon be dropping into much lower tax brackets while I spend it.

If you had no idea what he wants to do, you should go to his website. There is no reasons to keep oneself ignorant in this day and age. It is just a google away.
Also, he did not get elected because of affirmative action, that was true in Sarah Palin cased. He was able to appeal to voters of different strips, age, and class.

Screw the fact that we have a new president. I'm looking forward to the next four years because there actually seems to be a light at the end of the tunnel for me now.

I don't really know whether I should look forward to this or not. Obama's a good candidate (though I didn't like his comment about how the government's size doesn't matter as long as it works), but he was made out to be just short of a god during the campaign. No one could possibly do all of that shit. He's not going to be able to get in universal health care, at least not at first. First priority is foreign policy, especially the Middle East, and Russia's going a little trigger-happy, too.
So, all I could say to Obama right now is, "Good luck, and have fun." I sure as hell don't want that job.

Although I do believe our current system needs some real work done, I am so glad that "He's not going to be able to get in universal health care"... from everyone who has that, they say its like communism- in theory its a good practice, in practice its a good theory but ultimately is flawed and does not work.

Do you even know what communism is?
Communism: a theory or system of social organization based on the holding of all property in common, actual ownership being ascribed to the community as a whole or to the state.
Fascism (***): a governmental system led by a dictator having complete power, forcibly suppressing opposition and criticism, regimenting all industry, commerce, etc., and emphasizing an aggressive nationalism and often racism.
I think that Bush was fascism because he believes that a woman vagina is state property. You show your strip and I am glad that your people lost. ***

You seemed to miss my point. I stand by what I said and you should apply universal health care to the idea of communism. Communism and UHC do seem like good ideas up until they are applied...

While we're on the topic of fascism, how bout we take a look at the executive order, a presidential practice that Obama has unfortunately decided to continue. There is absolutely no provision in the Constitution that allows the executive to issue unilateral binding proclamations. It is, with no exaggeration, dictatorial.
Of course, President Obama has used his executive orders to do good things, like close Guantanamo. But no matter what the laudable intent of an executive order is, it is undemocratic and unconstitutional and I'd rather not make that trade off. There were legal avenues for closing Guantanamo that Obama decided to forgo.
Bush was infamous for tipping governmental power towards the Whitehouse. Obama, it seems, is going to continue that trend.

An executive order applies to the people that work for the federal government, just like your boss giving you an order, or a policy to follow. It is not a law. As a private citizen you cannot be convicted of disobeying an executive order. The power to issue 'executive orders' is inherent in the position of commander in chief of the military and head of every department of the federal government, which is exactly the role which the constitution assigns to the President.

This is true, but abuse of the executive order this century has been rampant (as in the case of FDR, who issued over three thousand). The problem with EOs is that they flirt with the fine (and sometimes not so fine) line between legal executive management and unconstitutional presidential edicts. For example, how did Bush manage to get his executive branch underlings to begin a domestic spying program? An executive order- and what's worse, one that was issued and carried out in stealth.
Still, you have a point specifically in relation to Guantanamo, since it is a military center and the President is the highest military commander. In that case, I stand corrected- what Obama did was legal. I still hope he doesn't get into the habit of issuing EOs- lest he cross that line.

I am gald that McCain/Palin did not win. Joe the fake Plumber support for Palin is the most dumbest thing.
When he went on CNN, he said that he do not want to paid taxes but support Palin however he makes less than 200,000 dollars each years. Under Obama, he would benefit from the tax plan. However, he do not support Obama because he would increase taxes for the top 1.5% or those that make more than 200,000 dollars each years. The host asked Joe the fake Plumber that taxes paid for the roads, police, and firefighters et al, so if the top 1.5% should not paid taxes, than who should? Joe said that it should be the 98.5% because they are too lazy to make more than 200,000.
When asked why he opposed the increase in taxes for the top 1.5% or those that make more than 200,000 a years even through he is not a part of that bracket, he said that they are hard workers. He than said that those who make less than 200,000 are not hard workers and should be the one to paid more taxes.
He than said that if he did received a tax cut under Obama, he would not take it because it is against his principal. hear that, if he gets a tax cut for making less than 200,000 each years, it is morally wrong because he was to lazy to make more than 200,000 but he also do not want to paid tax.

Every set of four years in my life has been better than the last. Why should that change now.? I am certainly working hard so it won't.
Obama may really screw things up, but there are so many insane things our government currently does he has a fair chance to improve things as a whole.
A few Federal insanities:
Thousands of pages of constantly changing tax code.
Cuban Trade Embargo
Billions of 'welfare' paid annually to millionaire land owners to not produce food.
More than half of all money spent to benefit the poor goes to administering the programs rather than helping the poor.
...Please add your own favorite Federal insanities...
