Faux or Real

Have you ever seen how they make fur coats. It really is appalling, but for some reason I still love fur. I have watched many PETA videos to try and sway my views on eating meat and wearing fur and leather, but to date nothing has stuck. I feel bad to know what happens to the animals, and do believe that there are much more humane ways of doing it, but I still love fur and leather products.

I believe my attention was first drawn to fur and leather products on a trip to Australia when I was 13. We went to a crocodile farm, where they raised crocodiles to be slaughtered for meat and there skins. At the time, being so young, I didn't realize what all went into this process. Anyway, at the farm they had a store full of crocodile leather bracelets, necklaces, and other goods. They also had kangaroo skins for sale. I was drawn to all of these products, they seemed so exotic and foreign to me. So at the age of 13 I bought two crocodile bracelets and a kangaroo skin. And that is when our love affair started.

Now, I haven't bought any fur or leather products since then, mainly due to price. But I still love to look at fur coats, leather jackets and so on. Maybe this is my way of feeling bad, I can look but won't buy. I do wonder, had I not bought those things at the farm if I would feel the same way today, but I can't go back in time. I guess what I am trying to say is that even though I wish I didn't like fur and leather I do and don't feel there is anything I can do about it. I know that there are faux goods, but in most cases it just isn't the same. I do have a jacket that is trimmed with faux fur and I like it, but I would never wear a whole jacket out of it.

I guess I just feel bad for admiring something that causes so much pain. I believe that I like animals, and would never want to harm them, but then feel like a hypocrite. What are your opinions? If you do leave a reply don't bash me for my opinions? If you disagree, you are free to say so, but do it in an intelligent and respectable way.

I can't even tell the different between faux and real fur. Maybe you could buy the fake stuff instead. It's cheaper anyways. Or perhaps used?

O tried going vegetarian once, for animal rights as well as the enviromental impact. I could only last about two weeks. We all like some things that aren't as good as we wish. So don't feel too guilty about
