Why do you have to be 21 to drink but can serve the country at 18?

Why do you have to be 21 to drink? We are considered adults at 18. We can serve our country at 18. We can smoke at 18. We can buy a house or car when we are 18. And we can have kids when we want. Everything we do can be done at 18 or younger expect for drinking. Most everyone drinks before they are 21. Why do we have to wait until we are 21 the legally drink?
