Everything you know about Columbine is wrong

If you've had an eye on the news the past week, you'd know that today is the 10th Anniversary of the Columbine shooting. For those reading who might not be old enough to remember (wow, that's a hell of a thought for me), April 20, 1999 was the day that two students, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, went into their school with the intent of killing more people than Timothy McVeigh killed at the Oklahoma City bombing. What ended up happening was a school shooting that was covered so quickly by the media that it essentially turned into a circus of badly reported news. As a result, all the "facts" known about Columbine couldn't be farther from the truth, and after ten years, people are just now seeing the real facts.

They were bullied? They were part of the Trench Coat Mafia? They listened to Marilyn Manson? Yes, everything you think you know about Columbine is wrong.  Read More »

Safe in School

I see that some other people have brought up some good points about the recent school shooting epidemic. I agree that it is a major problem. How can we even feel safe in our schools anymore. School Shootings moved closer to home: Do you feel safe in your school?

Tagged:  •    •    •

In the past year, there have been quite a few school shootings, but none of them had registered as a threat to me until Febuary 14th 2008. As you all know this is the date of the NIU shooting. For me this is hitting way close to home. I was literally in shock, and I didn't know what to think. My aunt works there as a teacher, not to mention I know very many students there.  Read More »

Yeah well, your behavior sucks too; you just won't admit it

The world, I informed my husband last night, has run crazy. He smiled sympathetically and nodded before kissing me on the forehead and assuring me that things would settle down again soon. He knew, as did I, that I was simply fed up and needed to rant. He then listened attentively as I railed about the insanity that has been my week thus far.  Read More »

Fear and "No Tolerance"

Talk about misplaced priorities. A high school student in Belding, Michigan has been expelled and is facing a felony charge of “making a threat involving a harmful device.” According to two students, he made an offhand remark about wanting to “get guns with 500 rounds and shoot up the school.”  Read More »
