I was merely 16 years old when I went to church in the middle of nowhere with one of my aunts. I had never been super religious, even though I had read the bible several times. I always questioned religion, and even at a young age had asked some questions that even seemed to make church officials think. At this point in my life, my home life really, really sucked.
With the HUGE number of people whose identity is stolen each year, many websites have improved their security features. Some require passwords with a particular composition of letters, numbers, and symbols. Others ask a question at every login, or require the user to identify a picture as their own.
For those of you that don’t know, I’m an insomniac. I have insomnia pretty bad, but I cannot take anything to regulate it because most sleeping medications have inconsistent effects on one of my other medications. I’ve dieted right, exercised regularly, turned the air conditioner as low as it will go, and tried about every other insomnia tip, but it never works.
Have you ever been disappointed because you get a sudden apetite for something in the kitchen only to see that it is gone? I have. Today, it happened with macaroni and cheese.
At some time or another, we have all realized that we are unaware of other cultures’ beliefs, traditions, or struggles. We all face barriers when interacting with people who we think are different than us. We may be less tolerant of people we perceive to be different. We could even be scared of others or become afraid of interacting with them because of stereotypes.
I was working in a restaurant in my hometown about four or five years ago when a woman who was fascinated with American Indians asked me if I knew of where she could find some “real Indians”. She wanted to see a tribe in action, and specifically wanted her picture taken with an Indian. I informed her that I was Indian. She looked at me in disbelief, as if I were lying about the whole ordeal.
