As you may have read over at Old Lady Syndrome, I seem to have caused a bit of hubbub over the implication that I favored a UC Berkeley student who recently lost a lawsuit for defamation and tortious interference.
Now that I've done a bit more research, it seems appropriate to present the facts (and my opinion) here, too.

President Bush has used his executive privilege to refuse lawmakers' demands for White House documents relating to the Congressional investigation of recent firings of federal prosecutors. Granted, it's not illegal for him to use this executive privilege, but it's still a veritable slap in the face to Congress' attempts to seek the truth about those suspicious firings. The subpoenas ask for documents and for former political director Sara Taylor and former presidential counsel Harriet Miers to testify in front of Congress-- neither of which the White House is willing to authorize. There are a lot of things I keep secret from my mom, and I was never quite sure why. In many cases it was my early signs of my independence, a drive to take care of myself without letting her oversee everything.
