The moment allegations of improper activity arose regarding the Duke Lacrosse players, the players were guilty. The moment ESPN and CNN broke UPDATES about the charges, the players were guilty. The MOMENT it became known that the players went to Duke they were guilty. When we learned they attended elite private schools in New York they were guilty. And when they were white and the strippers were black the players were crucified.
Into what has our legal system devolved? Where has the age old tenet: 'Innocent before guilty' disappeared? And who is the culprit? Society. Read More »

Enron: A Houstonian's Perspective
For the past three weeks, the Chronicle has documented the previous day's trial proceedings. It reads like a Grisham novel. Not in a fictional sense, but in the level of heightened tension and testimony. Each day brought a different headline. The story pervaded all facets of local media and everyone who was anyone brought up the trial each morning.
And it won't ever end. Read More »
In military matters, should the ends justify the means?
It is obvious that the current military policy is if it works, do it. We've seen it in Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo Bay. The question here is is that practice legitimate or does it undermine the credibility of the US military? I assert that such "ends justify the means" policies destroy our reputation (not that it's the greatest thing since sliced bread right now).
Who are we now to argue against Geneva Convention breaches or aggressive nuclear policies or unfair treatment of Americans we subjugate "enemies" to the same or worse treatment? He specifically references/ insinuates African countries in his 'analysis.' If so, then the idea of specific food even monetary aid to these countries is preposterous. Read More »
Gothic People Deserve the Criticism
And the response mechanism is complaint, disenchantment with society. Bah.
This response mechanism inherently is a way out of dealing with a problem. By isolating and withdrawing themselves from other students and people, they are working to impact themselves. Read More »
What's up with fat?
What's up with fat? I've had a thing for fat for a while now. No, I'm not attracted by fat, nor am I fat myself. Actually, I'm just amazed by the obesity epidemic spanning the US. Screw ideal perceptions, media antagonizing, personal judgements and relationships. Look at the issue with respect to personal worth.
No one wants to grow up to be fat. Read More »
Private Education: The Global Education Solution
Choice is the most essential component of education. Choice to learn. Choice to participate. Choice of subject. Choice of school. The latter option is the most critical in terms of the holistic educational experience. The right school encourages individuals to learn, fosters discussion, promotes subject interest and intellectual curiousty. Often (in the global setting) these schools are private schools.
