So the last couple of weekends, I've been dumpstering at large universities here in Portland, as the students move out of the dorms and head back to where-ever home is for them, and throw away amazing quantities of barely-used items. Some friends and I dumpstered at Lewis and Clark College and Reed, and, once again, I am appalled at the great wastefulness of American college students. Read More »

Those Three Day Births: The Spiritual Reasons Not To C-section...
The other night, in the middle of the night, I had an epiphany; this isn't exactly just my own thought(s,) as I've definitely read other midwives who say the same or similar things, but I realized that by doing so many C-sections on moms and babies for reasons such as "failure to progress", we are robbing parents the time they need to become parents and to work through emotional stuff they need t Read More »

Move to the woods?
So lately, with the shaky economy, this unending war, uncertain political times, etc, many of my friends have begun to purchase land, with the idea of "escaping" to the woods. Some of them seem scared, or a bit paranoid, but one of my friends just seems fed up. Read More »

What the anarchist kids do for fun...

Bagby hotsprings and keeping human-kind contained
So yesterday evening me, two housemates and two other friends drove out to the Bagby hotsprings which are on Mnt Hood. The Bagby hotsprings are really unique in that the springs flow into a series of little "houses" some of which have communal tubs, and some of which are divided into stalls and have individual tubs.
