Dear Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr...

Dear Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.,

I know your eyes have to be filled with tears as you look down upon humanity. Your life, your legacy, and your dedication to not civil rights but human rights will not be forgotten. The day you dreamed of where we cease to see the color of a person's skin but the content of their character has not yet arrived. Have no fear your life, your blood, your tears, and your legacy lives on.

You gave hope when there was no hope. Hope lives on, hope never dies, and there will always be hope for the day that you see. Harvey Milk said you cannot live on hope alone but without hope life is not worth living.

As I set as this early hour of the morning reviewing the photographs, the news reels, and the words that defined the Civil Rights movement I cry out with pain and agony. I refuse to allow myself to wallow in my pain and my agony. When I left my life of activism bitter and jaded I said I would return when my community needed me. I was blind to the fact that my community always needed me. I have returned, and the millions of people like me have returned.

The good fight did not start yesterday, last week, last month or even during your era. The good fight started with the dawn of humanity. As we hold back the reigns of self destruction once again we have renewed bond to humanity.

Our bond to humanity is the most scared bond we have. It is to that bond of humanity I renew my activism.

Sincerely,

An activist that found his Hope
