Purple Elephant in the room

*Cops-Enforce the law, help keep you and your family safe every and anywhere. Risk their lives day and night for us. Cops make $25.00 an hour, $30,000 a year. If lucky $100,000 a year.
*Firefighters-Help prevent fires. Save People from situations that could otherwise be fatal. Firefighters get paid $44,963 to $53,179 a year.
*Emergency room doctors/physician-Safe lives day and night. Anything hurts, doesnt look right whatever the case may be they are obligated and guaranteed to be there. They make $225,000 a year [And that’s depending on patients, hours a lot more factors].
Now...
Lauren Conrad, you guys may know from MTV's hit Reality show, “Laguna beach" and "The Hills" gets paid $75,000 per episode. She doesn't even have a lot of lines she basically cries, shops and has very limited conversations. The hill is in its 4th season. James Gandolfini the famous actor from Showtime’s "The sopranos’" DEMANDS a raise from $400,000 per episode to at least $700,000 an episode. Kelsie Grammer main character of the show "Frasier" gets $1.6 million per episode of a show that is not even producing new episodes.Unfortinitly the list goes on and on.
We are living in ludicrous times. We have the people that are saving our lives risking their own lives, mising on time with their family and much more, going into debt and bankruptcy. But with that going on for some reason the celebrity brat is fuming mad because a club wants to only pay her $36,000 for her presence. It’s hard to find entertainers now a day that are in the business because they genuinely love what they do. If you love what you do you'll do it for free if offered. I know you can't live on your passion only you have to make some kind of money but millions to billions to act in a movie is ridiculous.
Now I can't entirely knock all entertainers there are some out there that do make money for good causes. Among them are Pamela Anderson, Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt and many more, but unfortunately the list comes shorter than the celebs that don't help at all. Thanks to the positive influences some of these celebs have actually encouraged more celebrities and non celebrities to contribute more to the world and its causes. We need to switch things up a bit. A reality check if we must. Let us admire, appreciate and actually pay the people that actually do something for all of us. Celebrities that would not take a pay cut to help real heroes should just boldly admit that they do what they do for the money not the love for their art. I love performing arts it’s what drives me I love to act, dance, and sing the works. I love what I do so I could do it for free I have acted in theatres for free I have appeared at functions for free, and if I received money it was enough to keep me alive. So ask yourselves how hospitals would change, how much better things would be if instead of paying "stars" so much for their services we paid them a reasonable cut. Perhaps we would actually start getting more talented entertainers in the buisness, better movies, better music, better hospitals, better healthcare, maybe even better teachers and schools the sky is the limit.

It's all about supply and demand. It does not take much to be a cop. All you need is reasonable intelligence, reasonable athletic ability and some courage. People with these qualities are a dime a dozen and if one of them decides they are unhappy with the pay scale, there are plenty of people in the world that are willing to take their place, The same is true of fireman. And teachers are another job category that often gets included in this under-appreciated category.

On the otherhand, there is something almost magical about top actors. The same can be said about superstar athletes and politicians (Reagan, Bill Clinton, Obama). They captivate people. It does not really matter if they like their jobs or not. What matters is that people are drawn to them and they have the power to radiate charisma that generate huge audiences. This translates to huge amounts of money (and power if they are politicians). Only a handful of people on earth possess this magic and there is a huge demand for it. So they can demand and get paid megabucks for sharing their magic.

It is supply and demand. There is a huge supply of people capable of being firefighters and policeman. There is only a tiny supply of people who possess the magic.

It may seem unfair or a misallocation of resources but what could be more fair then allowing people by the millions to individually choose and vote with their own hard earned money?

I was going to bring up supply and demand. You beat me to it. Though I took a slightly different approach.

This blogger is complaining that people with important jobs don't get paid enough. I agree. But pay doesn't necessarily equal appreciation, either.

And the reason why the otherwise worthless big shots like these actors get big paychecks is because of the demand for them- and since they're entertainers, we are the consumers. It is our fault (collectively speaking) that these people are in such high demand, and therefore get such large paychecks. If you don't think that person from the Hills show should be getting that much money, don't watch the show. That's about as much as any individual can do on their own.

If someone really feels strongly about the earnings of television stars, one could boycott the shows, as cosmic suggested, but one could also contact the sponsors of the show and let them know that you are not watching, so you are not seeing the ads they pay so much money for. If they hear from enough people, it will give them pause. They may pull their ads, which would put the shows funding in jeopardy. The thing to consider before exacting nay revenge on a show, though, is that each show employs at least a hundred people behind the scenes. Getting a show canceled wouldn't really hurt the stars as much as it hurts the gaffers, the make-up people, the lighting people, the editors, the writers, etc.

Nice point about the hundreds of little people that would be hurt if you got a show cancelled.

Beyond that, what would be the point? If you got a show cancelled would it somehow mean that policemen, firemen and teachers started getting paid more? I doubt it. Mostly it would just be a senseless act that hurt a bunch of people and accomplished nothing. That is the problem with most class warfare and jealousy.

If I were a Christian I would point towards one of the Commandments. I think they say something about "coveting".
