As some of you may have noticed, some of our members now have a little bar on their content that asks you for a tip. After spending the last week or two testing it out to ensure that all is in working order, we're pleased to finally announce that anyone interested may sign up and use the tipjar on their own content!
The TipJoy tip jar allows ProgressiveU members and visitors to tip bloggers anywhere from a few cents to a few dollars as a way to say thanks for their contributions to the site. In order to use this feature, you need to set up an account at TipJoy. You can do this one of two ways.
You can edit your account here at ProgressiveU and scroll down to the Tip Joy area. There you will see instructions for setting up an account and getting your tip jar set up on your content.
Or, you can visit the Tip Joy website at http://tipjoy.com and set up an account there. Once you've done that, you'll need to insert your username into your profile information here so your tip jar appears. (Edit your account, scroll down to the Tip Joy section and follow the instructions).
Once you've gotten your account set up, you can accept tips here at ProgressiveU or directly from the TipJoy website or tip others. To do that, you'll use PayPal to add a few dollars to your account. That money can then be used to tip others when they post content you appreciate. You can also tip others before adding money to your account, but please note that you should only tip individuals when you plan to follow through and add the funds to cover that tip! And, of course, any tips you receive can also be used to tip other bloggers, should you choose to do so
You do not have to use the tip jar if you do not wish to do so. We wanted to add this feature, however, as another way to say thanks to all of you for your hard work both during contest periods and during the off season. Not everyone will win a ProgressiveU scholarship, but everyone can earn tips. It may not ever amount to much, but every little bit helps!
The tip jar has also been added to ProgressiveU content, making it possible for you to tip ProgressiveU directly. You may find the ProgressiveU tip jar on Progressive U Team content or by entering info@progressiveu.org in the search field at the TipJoy website!
In addition to the new tip jar feature, we have also added a new aspect to the rating feature. Instead of rating before or after you comment, you can now rate a blog directly in your comment.
If you opt to do this, you should be aware that your rating will be posted with your comment. If, for instance, you rate a blog as a five in the comment, the five star rating will appear directly above the text of your comment so that the author and others can see who gave that rating and you can explain why.
You don't have to use this feature if you do not wish too, but it will allow blog authors to better understand who is rating their content and why it is being rated.
We hope you enjoy the new features! If you have any questions, run into any problems or would like to leave feedback about either of these features, please do not hesitate to let us know. You can email us at info@progressiveu.org or leave a comment here!
Cheers,
The ProgressiveU Team

Great new features! I was wondering about those tipjars, but I figured it would be explained in time. The new rating system is also a great one. I wonder how many people will give up anonymity...

... I wonder if people will give up anonymity when it is a less then a four rating. Maybe only those who have been around along enough to have no fear. I just hope those brave souls do not have to deal with retribution
There are very few human beings who receive the truth, complete and staggering, by instant illumination. Most of them acquire it fragment by fragment, on a small scale, by successive developments, cellularly, like a laborious mosaic.~- Anais Nin
The ratings system could work against the tipjar. But the drama that could cause may increase traffic to the site, so that's good.

Good point. I know I would think about it for a second before doing it. I might and I might not, depending on what I have to say in the comment and the blog I'm commenting. If I think someone can take the constructive criticism, I'll do it.
