The LEAGUE, a school and web-based system for service learning, is at it again! From now until January 21st, the LEAGUE is encouraging young people to get involved and do good in their communities with their King Day initiative.
The King Day initiative is a national LEAGUE event that encourages young people to help others through acts of caring, respect and fairness -- performing good deeds for their community. These acts can be as simple as helping a neighbor carry groceries, spending time visiting with seniors, tutoring a younger student, or making an anonymous donation to a person or organization in need. Students also earn points for these deeds. These points represent the dollar value being fed back into communities around the nation. All acts of caring, respect and kindness do make a difference, so every good deed, large or small counts!
This year, the LEAGUE is also encouraging everyone to share Giving Game Cards. The Giving Game is based on the principle of kindness. Pass along good deeds and share your story with others on the Giving Game site. The game is FREE to play and is a fun way for children to make the world a better place. For more information you can visit www.givinggame.org.
As most of you are aware, community service and reaching out is a big part of the ProgressiveU mission. In that vein, we would like to encourage those of you in high school to get involved with this worthy effort by volunteering your time and resources to your individual communities and favorite service organizations through the King Day program. Those of you who work with children in a school environment or those of you with school aged children are encouraged to get involved by recruiting your child's class to the program.
Participants earn points for the good deeds they do during the course of the program and learn the importance of doing good, as well as reach a better understanding of the large impact small acts of kindness can have on their neighbors, their communities and the world at large.
Don't fit within the age requirements to get involved? Don't stress! You may not be able to participate in the program, but you can show your support for the program by introducing others to the program and by taking the time to recommit to community service for yourself on your own. Start a book drive, a food drive, a clothing drive. Be a fairy for a day and deliver care packages under cover of night to the doorsteps of senior citizens, home bound individuals or families. Shovel snow, mow a lawn, clean up a yard or a park. The possibilities are limitless!
In the coming weeks, ProgressiveU will roll out a new way for supporters to get involved with the ProgressiveU cause. If you can't find a volunteer opportunity on your campus or in your community, you can always sign up to participate in that effort. Or, we can certainly find something for you to do here.
There is much work to be done and we are always in need of dedicated volunteers to keep the ProgressiveU services up and running! If you'd like to volunteer with us now but would also like to participate in the next competition, we are more than happy to make concessions for you at this time!

Cheers,
The ProgressiveU Team
