Hugh Jackman and Social Commentary

Those were the big themes of the last day of my holiday. Given that it was a holiday, a moment away from the clients and class work (although, I confess I used that time to write and research stuff) I decided to go to the movies one of those days – a burn out prevention method, I told myself.
As a proud fan of Hugh Jackman, I indulged in seeing the movie Australia. All in all, it was a delightful picture, very good and I recommend it. Something that I especially appreciated, however, (besides Hugh) was a theme that I noticed running through the picture that I did not anticipate and I appreciated.
It was about the treatment of aboriginal people in Oz and what that means in practical terms, that is, in the relationships between the indigenous people and the whites, the oppressed versus the privileged. These relationships are something with which people struggle all over the world, in every country, and I like that a film talked about it in a different way. It was interesting to see the oppressed groups ran from those in power, hid from them, the steps they took to keep from being discovered. That kind of thing happened here, as well, and still does. That is the thought that really moves me.
