Propaganda Used By Prof. Hill in The Music Man

In the movie “The Music Man” Professor Harold Hill uses a variety of propaganda techniques. However the song “Ya Got Trouble” his methods are particularly persuasive and faulty. His techniques are quite interesting.
One main propaganda technique he uses is the “Faulty Cause and Effect” method. A method in which, without proof, one thing is presented as if it caused another. Hill does this by first making the new pool table in town sound a lot worse than billiards. He almost makes it out to be evil. He then points out wrong and questionable things children are doing and makes it seem as though the pool table has caused them. He then makes it seem as if this means they will play pool and that doing so will make them ruin their lives.
Another propaganda technique is the “Repetition” method. A method in which a word phrase or slogan is repeated over and over so that it sticks in the reader or hearer’s mind. Hill does this by repeating “Oh ya got trouble, right here in River City, with a capital “T” and that rimes with “P” and that stands for pool.” This whole long phrase stirs up the crowd and the repeating “Ya got trouble” sticks in their heads. This phrase in their heads makes them begin to wonder weather their youth really are in “danger” from this pool table.
The propaganda techniques Hill uses in the song “Ya got trouble” are very different. However, as a skilled salesman he weaves them together so seamlessly they fall right for it. Through these examples it is clear that Professor Harold Hill both varies his methods of propaganda and is very persuasive.

"How can we win where fools can be kings" Muse

This site is not dedicated soley to those who choose to blog about the actual topic "progress". It is for the discussion of any topic that is educational or academic in nature or for blogs which aim to broaden the minds of their readers and pose possible questions. Whithin those limits I may chose to blog about whichever topics I chose or those that happen to strike my interest. Lately I have enjoyed writing discussions of the various books and movies I have been reading lateley and the thoughts that occured to me in the process. I find your blog quite interesting and thought provoking, your posts tend to be more political in nature while mine usually stick to the literary side of things. That is my forte. As they say, to each his own. I look forward to reading more of your work in the future.

i to believe that your blogs can provoke thought and discussion.

but i would focus on just posting a few at time.

you will get more reads and more discussion.
