In the musical movie The Music Man the songs play a very important role in the plot. They have two main purposes. Without them the play would probably not have become as famous as it did.
One important purpose the songs play is subtly feeding the audience information. It would be rather boring if the characters just stated the information. By using songs the audience will absorb the information and remember it better without realizing it. Some of the songs in the music man with this purpose are the song at the beginning in the train, and the “pick a little, talk a little” song.
Another important purpose the songs play is to make the movie fun, bouncy and interesting. The plot of the movie is interesting but without being punctuated by the songs it wouldn’t be as engaging. The songs in the movie are essential to the movie’s upbeat feel and plot.
Through these examples it is obvious that the songs are essential to the movie. It is also clear that the movie is greatly enhanced by the songs. This is seen through the examples of how the songs provide information and the overall upbeat feel of the movie.
