The Party System

So I want to start out by saying that I am a Republican, but I hold some liberal streaks that put me at odds with my some of my party's fundamental beliefs. This disagreement is something everyone should hold, one shouldn’t blindly hold to their parties beliefs without thinking about them first.

But what I think we continue to see in the Capital is a hardening of party lines instead of the blurring of them. The two-party system has poisoned this country. It has created an atmosphere of he said she said. We have become so attached to either the Republican or Democrat party that in a way we have become blind to whatever issue is at hand. Our members of Congress are no longer voting for what is in the benefit of the American people, or even the people of their district. Unfortunately there is no effective way to control this two-party system. With one election to one side they go and do their own thing then the next party comes and does the opposite and it becomes this massive tug-of-war that has the American people caught in the center.

What I personally would love to see is a third party. I really don’t care who it is, we need however another party. Our government has forgotten the meaning of compromise, the current party in power, be it the Republicans or the Democrats simply do whatever they want, without regard to the other party's objections, which many times are valid ones. While I know the chances of introducing a third party are slim to none at least remember that whatever party you may belong to, do not blindly subscribe to their beliefs.

I agree- our two party system is too rigid, as I blogged about last spring.
