Due to a number of unfortunate circumstances this year, I've missed a lot of school this year. It seems I should find my grades suffering from this, but this is not the case. Instead, I've discovered that I perform as well as, if not better than, I do when I am actually attending school regularly. It seems this reveals a vital flaw in our educational system, especially given that I am an auditory learner. This forces me to call into question the quality of education I have been receiving throughout my life.
Another trend I find equally frightening is that the classes are now being taught for the test, rather than the tests being written for the classes. Standardized testing is a growing phenomenon in our society, and I feel the quality of our education is suffering because of it. I have been effectively taught memorization and how to take a test, but I can not recall a single fact from any of the classes I took last year, yet I performed very well in them. This frightens me and convinces me that rather than learning anything in school, I am taking tests to pass the classes. This seems to me to be a serious flaw in the system. Is the point of education not to learn? To come away from school with better knowledge? I have been led to believe this is indeed the point, but the unsettling facts that have continually presented themselves to me suggest otherwise. Has education been reduced to passing the test?

No, the point for the American public school system is to create mindless robots to be economically productive for our country's benefit.
the reason why it is so easy for you to jump right back into your classes is becuase the school system is precisely structured for people to do that. Our textbooks and emphasis on homework provide and easy structured way to learn simple ideas and problems.
This way of learning was set up during the mid -1800s that we adopted from Prussia ( now Germany).
the concept was introduced becuase of the constant labor strikes of the time. the concept allowed the public to learn information faster so scabs could fill in positions faster.
so scab away at your textbooks.
i blame "no child left behind."
if you're intellectually curious, the system hasn't broken you yet!
