Our Say

People need to see that we all have to have a say in the government, or this isn't a democracy in anything but name. We maight as well have a dictator in charge if we don't exercise our rights. And i dont just mean the right to vote, though that's a huge part of it. But Americans are also supposed to be activists for peace. Historically, the U.S has been a pacifist country. We didn't enter into WWII until we had to. that pacifism has been sadly lacking of late, and warmongers like John McCain show just how far we've fallen. Iraq, Vietnam, Korea--during all of these wars, Americans didn't stand up and say, "No, this isn't right and we won't go along with it." If we ARE a democracy, aren't we, the people, supposed to have the power? If so, we need to exercise the power that we were given. I'm sure the founding fathers would be cringing if they could see us now. Think of Thomas Jefferson, our third president, who tried to oppose the creation of the Constitution because he thought that it took rights away from the people. And, when it was finally ratified, even though he disagreed with many parts of it, he did his best to uphold it as president.
I'm not for the right for every crazy to be able to own a gun, without any regulation whatsoever, but I AM for the rest of the rights in the Bill of Rights. We should be able to speak our minds without fear of repercussions. We should be able to write what we want, gather where and when we want, and be repersented if accused. We shouldn't have to fear phone tapping, torture, or any of the things that have been happening lately as ourgovernment degrades further and further.
