Is Sarah Palin pushing the women's movement foreward, or back?

Since John McCain chose Sarah Palin as his running mate, everyone has been talking about her: her families, her ideals, her life etc. Well is all this exposure good for the so called women's movement? My vote: no. Sarah Palin is not by any stretch of the imagination a poster child for what a mother or even a woman in America is. Here use of specific phrasology (gosh, hockey mom etc.) shows women as scatter brained, uneducated house wives. There are, however some redeeming factors in her behavior. She did not disown her pregnant daughter, something that happens all too often. (Although accepting the offer from John McCain in light of her daughter's condition seems terrible and insensitive because she HAD to know that the media would catch wind, and that her reputation would be seared so thoroughly that it would be completely unrecognizable which definitely brings her mothering into question.) Her position in "trooper-gate" shows that women can be "vindictive bitches" but also that they can cause scandal if they so choose. Both of these are seen as flaws by her conservative constituents, but I find that it serves to present her as an opinionated, strong woman, which is exactly how women should be viewed. Whether she was a good choice for McCain is another topic entirely.

I disagree, let’s get the facts Sarah Palin is like almost every working woman mother I know. As a soccer Mom and a Band Mom and a VP of one company and owner of another, there is finally a woman I could vote for in politics, someone just like the average American woman raising a family and working, not some Elitist or Far Left Liberal. Nancy the house majority leader or Hillary Clinton do not represent my views or causes.
Her daughter is engaged to married, the only despicable act was the media making headlines of a private family matter. Her daughter was the pillar of strength and so was her family, they should be proud they did not crack under the pressure. That goes to show the type of woman she is, to have such a strong loving family foundation.
Do not be misinformed the facts are, the trooper gate investigation found her in the wrong over one of the issues, which was not even her but because her husband used government resources like telephones to push the issue. Remember this was an investigation by Democratic opponents trying to make her look bad. You know if someone tassered your 10 year old nephew there would be nothing stopping you from doing everything in your power to take action against that person. Especially if that person is a public servant that has the power to use a tasser gun on someone they pull over with a smart mouth who happened to be driving too fast.

I understand the aspects of trooper gate and find it to be a mark that she is a strong and independent and opinionated women which is how I like to see women as a whole. I just don't think that she will do a good job as VP right now, and I don't want that to mean that no more women will ever be elected to important national office. That is the same reason I wasn't for Hillary Clinton. I want the first woman in the white house to be the perfect woman so that more can get elected, that's all.

Just like Hillary inflamed men and women both, so will Palin on the other end of the spectrum. Even a bad woman in office, is better than any man in office, at anytime. The men in office are extremely flawed. Palin has performed an astounding and honest job in Alaska for the people. I was floored to see how she took on the good ole boy network and fought for the people. That took a pair.

I see your point, yet I don't think she has the economic and foreign policy experience needed for the job.

I was not for Hillary either. I beleive they are both bringing the women movement down and pretty fastly. Hillary, though i admit, is alot brighter then Palin just read my blog titled Palin and i give one example why.

Love the blog...
I agree totally with your point.

Thanks alot.

I do not think it matters if Palin is a good example for women in the White House. What does matter is the negative attention she is receiving right now. The progaganda is putting her in the limelight with tons of criticisms that are extremely negative. Palin is now a name associated with bad grammar, clueless on issues, and an opportunist. These criticisms is what the American public will associate with any women desiring to run for a high office like the vp or president. it will not matter if the women is wonderful and perfect for the office because the media has already set in the public's mind that any woman wouldn't be good enough for the job.

I don't think the media has inherent bias against females in politics. I think they are equal-opportunity teasers. They say just as many bad things about Obama as Palin, its just that the things about Palin stick because there is more to tease in way of her grammar and lack-of-knowledge etc..

I didn't exactly say the media has an inherant bias against females. Actually, i bellieve most of what the media is saying about Palin. What i do believe is that the American public will be more skeptical about a woman in a higher office because of the negative attention Palin has receive.
People will think of Palin when another female intends to run.

Hmmm, Palin is up against sexist pigs and hypocritical feminist liars. I am so sick of the attacks on Palin. She is great. She did not become Americans most popular governor because she was incompetent or inexperienced or stupid. Palin took on the Good Ole Boy Network, Big Government, Big Business and raised a family. She has more guts than most men I know, especially in Government, because she actually made reform happen in her state, all the while our Senate and Congress were in the pockets of corrupt businesses and were too worried they may make the people mad who contribute to their campaigns, instead of taking care of us. Palin is the only Governor to give money back to the people of her state, rather than take money from the people.
The feminist or so called feminist who do not support her are disgusting excuses for woman. They are not real woman at all. They are just like the sexist pig men, who did not want women to vote or have their own voice. Unless you agree with the pro abortion feminist, in their opinion you as a woman are not entitled to an opinion of your own. The fact that they cannot support Palin proves they do not care at all for a woman’s rights; they just want to force their own selfish agendas on everyone. Does not Sarah Palin as a woman have the right to her own values, opinion and a family and a career? One Point I want to make about today’s so called feminist, they are not like the real woman of the feminist movement, who were mothers and wives and believed in God and Families values. Nope the feminist movement has been hijacked by the far left liberals, who murder babies by the thousands or want to marry woman instead of men. Those feminist are even worse than the men who tried to oppress woman, because they try to oppress woman who do not agree with them, they are not any different. That group thinks any woman who is not pro abortion or pro gay marriage is not entitled to women’s rights. Let me tell you something.
I left an abusive husband with a baby on each hip, worked my way through college and became the VP of a company and now own a small business. I had to fight my way to the top, with these so called feminist stabbing me in the back the entire way to the top. Sarah Palin has not once said she was going to overturn Rowe vs. Wade, she just said she does not agree with it, nor do I agree with it, for the fact abortion is now a form of birth control for thousands of irresponsible woman too lazy to use birth control. Let me tell you one thing, Sarah Palin is more of a feminist than half of this hypocritical far left selfish woman, most of whom you have to question if they are even mentally stable. 90% are not even real women, they are men want-a-bees’.
My opinion about the homosexual issue is this, who in the world cares what someone’s sexual preference is, I do not, so get out of the political arena. Stop trying to force your lifestyle down society’s throat, do what you want to do, if I do not like it, I do not like it. It is a free country, I am not trying to stop you, but I am sick of all this victim bull. Just stop looking for everyone to say it is okay for you to be Gay, and trying to have special laws for a sexual preference. Guess what never going to happen, a large portion of Americans are going to be opposed to it, no matter what you do, our nation needs to focus on more important things then who sleeps with who or what. The only laws that need to be in place as far a sex goes are the ones that protect children from predators.
