Boy, oh boy, is it a bad time to be a Republican running for office. Look at John McCain right now. Some polls have him ten points behind Barack Obama. But McCain’s not behind because of his age, his vice presidential pick of Sarah Palin or those laughable negative attack ads. John McCain is losing because he is a Republican.
People are frustrated with government right now. I want to go to college next year, but I don’t know if I’ll be able to get a loan with this whole financial crisis going on and the credit dry up. There are many other people who are feeling the pain of this crisis and who is better to blame than the party in power… the Republican Party. People are, and always will, blame the party in power during a time of crisis. Just look at Herbert Hoover during the Great Depression in the early Thirties. The Republican Party was blamed and Franklin Roosevelt beat the incumbent Hoover by a landslide in 1932, taking 42 out of then 48 states, and winning 57 percent of the popular vote. This realigning election put the Democrats in charge of the White House for 28 out of the next 36 years. And it doesn’t look too bright right now for the GOP, as they are not fairing well with Americans.
While the Democrats are tying McCain to Bush, the Senator from Arizona is trying everything to distance himself from his party and the very unpopular president. One of McCain’s biggest messages that he has been pushing is being a maverick and standing up against his own party. I don’t think people are listening to him very well though. Voters see that ‘R’ next to his name and instantly begin to cringe. They don’t see his age of 72, his Paris Hilton ads, or hilarious spoofs of Palin on Saturday Night Live. Voters see the word ‘Republican’ next to John McCain and become disaffected. If he could, I’m sure McCain would elect to omit the party name next to his own name on the ballot.
I wouldn’t be surprised if this is another realigning election because it is sure a bad time to be a Republican running for office.

It is unfortunate when we put all the blame on the Republican party. when it is american citizens that are truely at fault. First they voted for a Rupublican, Bush for eight consective years, He used up our money on non essential things and we didnt left a word. Second if we didnt spend over our salary perhaps the financial crisis wouldn't have to be a crisis. This was a crisis waiting to come with America's terrible spending habits. Over 60 % of the population is in credit card debt .
I think americans spend too much on martial items because we value status and reputation with material success. Perhaps if we didnt have a television blaring advertisments and telling us to buy buy and buy we would be more relunctant to purchase. But this doesn't mean i am going to blame the FCC for my recent check bouncing.
I will admit I was very disappointed when McCain lost because he is more experienced, and in my opinion had a much better plan for the economy. I'm sure that there were too many college students who voted for Obama just because they are sick of the way things have been going with Bush for the past few years. Its a shame because McCain is nothing like Bush and Bush is the reason he lost.
