Blog Action Day 2008

progressive u team's picture

On October 15, 2008, we will again celebrate Blog Action Day (http://blogactionday.org) here at ProgressiveU. For those of you that were with us last October, you may remember that on October 15th, we asked you to blog about the environment. This year, the Blog Action Day topic is Poverty and as with last year, we're asking you to take part.

How you approach the topic is up to you. You can blog about a specific aspect of poverty, about poverty in a specific location, how poverty affects your own life, or you can approach it any other way you may so desire. What is important is that you blog about it!

Anyone that posts about poverty on Blog Action Day will receive 150 points towards the Blogging for Progress Scholarship Competition for their entry. Additionally, anyone who comments on a Blog Action Day post will receive 25 extra points (note: extra points only given once!).

The rules are simple:

1. Your entry should be posted on October 15th, 2008 (entries received any earlier or any later will not count).

2. All entries should be tagged "Blog Action Day".

3. All entries should include the following bit of script at the bottom of the post:
<a href="http://blogactionday.org"><img border="0" src="http://blogactionday.org/img/af877a91ef2ef12f9e50cb304b1a763db9110bef.jpg" /></a>

4. Entries must be on topic, meaning they should relate to the topic at hand. Blogging about the environment with absolutely no mention of poverty will not count. Likewise, just tossing in a mention of the word poverty will not work either!

Any questions can be posted as comments here or emailed to the moderators at editors@progressiveu.org.

Happy blogging!

Out of curiosity, does it have to be the normal type of poverty (lack of food, shelter, etc)? Or can we use our imaginations for a broader sense of the word?

I believe their goal is to address poverty in the general sense of the word--but poverty also relates to things like safe drinking water, opportunity to learn, not being able to find work, respect--not just shelter and food. It is already a pretty broad term that involves a lot of different things.

Their website also gives a few ideas of different ways you can talk about the problem.

Good luck!

I definitely intend to get something in. Don't be surprised if I don't, though. I can be complete crap with deadlines.

Considering the deadline was roughly 17 days ago, I don't think you'll manage this one :)

But there are other opportunities! I'd be interested in reading a Presidential Platform, for instance.
