Cook County Sheriff refuses to make renters homeless: Finally someone has a heart!

I applaud a Chicago sheriff that has chosen not to put renters, who are unaware that their landlords have stopped paying their mortgages, out in the cold.

Renters whose landlords have stopped making payments should receive proper notification and they are not. It would be horrible for a renter to come home and find all of their belongings (what is left) sitting outside near the curb, and have no idea as to why.

Banks want the occupants evicted but, many times the occupants are renters and not the actual home-owners. I think it is unfair that these renters have been thrown into what may have appeared as a mutually, workable situation; but, now, they realize that the person they pay their rent to monthly has left them to figure out this situation on their own.

Fortunately, Sheriff Dart has stepped in and stopped his officers from enforcing unlawful evictions of the wrong families, while knowing that his actions have been supported by legal advisement and the parameters of the laws that exist about proper notification and specific people to be evicted.

Many of the renters are not the home-owners; in some cases, the home-owners may have been attempting to rent out their home, in order to pay their mortgage or property taxes and fell on hard times. In other cases, if the owner flees the country, as the sheriff referenced in one case, that leaves the renters no just cause to know what measures are taking place against the houses they turned into homes.

Thank God that this Chicago Sheriff, Tom Dart has some humanity and compassion.
