Can someone please tell me this no longer exist? I spoke with a friend last week from Chad and she was lamenting on the recent issue of child marriage in her family. For what ever reason, the whole idea of child marriage is unfair to the children involved especially the girls.
As far as I am concerned, child marriage is a stolen life. They are deprived of education and social life for an early marriage. This act comes in two ways; Marrying a young child: this is most common e.g. 50yr old man to a 12 yr old girl and Arranged marriage which is between two kid. What ever name is takes, it is not good.
Governments have been trying to put an end to this act but most times, the implementation is zero or close to it.
If you think it is far away from you, look closely at this statistics and if you are free from it, our generation need you help to stop this. Africa is in a really bad condition here. Below are the number of prevalence in these countries. Take a look at S. Africa
Nigeria…………………..50% ( between age 7-15),
Ethiopia…………………50%
Mali………………………39% (before the age of 15)
Niger…………………….70%
Chad…………………….70% (before the age of 18)
South Africa: legal provisions made for respecting the marriage law of traditional marriages……………………………. 12 for females and 14 for males.
