I'm here to say that there is no such thing as a true environmentalist.
I have been talking to a few people who say they are "environmentalists". I just have to point out some irony. I was talking to them over the internet. That alone proves that they aren't true environmentalists, that they don't care about the environment as much as they say. Bear with me.
Their computers emit radiation harmful to the environment. The power needed to run their computers come from the local power companies, which purchase the resources dug up from the earth. The plastics required for the construction of the computer come, again, from oils taken from the earth. The chipsets come from companies whose production pours millions of tons of pollution into the air every year. The parts to make the computer were shipped every which way by truck or by plane, whose emissions pour more pollution into the air. The desk on which their computers sit are made of wood or plastic or metal, all of which are materials appropriated from the earth. The sound their speakers emit contributed to noise pollution, driving away natural life.
My friends, that is just with their computers. Imagine if I went through every single aspect of their life, every thing they use, every thing they hold dear, to lay out how they themselves contribute to the problem they strive to solve. This is such an important issue to them, they say, but when I point out that their everyday lives heavily contribute to the problem, the wall goes up. In reality, it's only a far-away ideology, not a way of life.
So, unless the person who tells you "I'm an environmentalist!!" is living in the wild like the animals do, ignore them.
