Cursed Birthdays

Every year, the week before my birthday has been a living hell. My freshman year, two days before my birthday, I got into a four car collision. I had bilateral ankle sprains, a sprained wrist and I had to wear a neck brace. I had to deal with the worst evil on the 29th... lawyers. The only good thing about this is that we sued the guy and now I get a bunch load of money in January.

Sophomore year, three days before my birthday, my dad was stupid enough to crawl under a van with only a car jack to hold up the car. Well the jack broke and he was crushed. He had broken ribs, brain trauma, and permanent mental problems and was in a coma for several weeks. He had to stay in the hospital for a grand total of 54 days. I ate my birthday cake in the hospital, then followed by a stretch hummer ride, but that's not the point.

Junior year, four days before my birthday, my parents' divorce was finalized. They were separated and filed before that, but that was the day it was finalized. My birthday was thus an awkward night. My parents decided that just because they were divorced, there was no reason not to spend it with both of them. That was an uncomfortable dinner.

I was completely shocked when nothing happened about my birthday senior year. The day started, I got all dressed up, and went and picked up my best friend. I spent the morning part of my birthday with my friend because it was both of our birthday. We had both turned 18. We headed over to the tattoo parlor for our appointment and got the same tattoo because we planned it since before our seventeenth birthday. I dropped her off at work afterwards and I went home. My dad was waiting for me and we went to the adventure park in town. We played miniature golf, went go-cart riding and played in the arcade. He then treated me to a movie, my choice. On our way home, we stopped at the gas station because, being newly eighteen, I just had to buy a lottery ticket, of course.

All in all, a complete shocker, my last birthday turned out to be one of the best so far.

I think it comes from high expectations about your birthday. These things could have happened any day, and they just so happened to happen right before your birthday. What you remember about it, is when it was because it was so close to your birthday. I know that sounds like babbling, but hopefully you know what I'm saying.
