Guys rethink when tears appear

Why is it that when a woman cries, or even a girl, when she cries, the guys around totally rethink everything? Now I know that most people say that they don't like to see women cry, or they are afraid of tears, or they think it is annoying, but why rethink all their actions? One, if you are going to be an ass, you might as well do it thoroughly. Two, if you don't want to make her cry, don't do what you know will upset her in the first place.

I was listening to a song by Within Temptation called "What have you done now?" and that somehow brought on this train of thought. I really don't see why guys do that. They get all made, start doing whatever, it upsets a woman and then they're like, 'oh crap, what do I do?' Why do they put themselves in that situation? Do they really totally rethink things and try to calm them down because they are afraid of tears? Somehow I don't think that's the answer. For one, it's probably a different reason for every guy. So my question here is, what are the rest of the reasons why a guy rethinks the situation?

It's so stupid, if you think about it. When my ex did something stupid, or started aruging and bitching, all I had to do was start crying and his demeanor would totally change. Perhaps guys do those kind of things for attention? That seems probable to me. In any case, it is annoying as hell. I know it's not just men though, some women need to learn to cool it. This world is filled with such agressive people. Sigh~ what can we do about it though? Not much, but hell, if crying gets a guy to stop whining then by all means, I will cry my eyes out. But it's so annoying because it gives me a headache!
