I made this blog for a scholarship. I am blogging for a scholarship. How weird is that? I think college tuition is completley rediculous. Okay, I understand that an education is important, that's why I'm furthuring my knowledge outside of high school into a college, but is racking up thousands of dollars in debt worth it? I was watching the news the other day and in it it said that somewhere there is a "free college" this "free college" contains all the same elements as a real college, it's just free. I'm a bit skeptical. America is so set on you have to pay for college or else you aren't getting a proper education. Let's break this down. In college you are paying for: your dorm room (or an apartment, or you are living at home--slacker--) then you are paying for nasty dorm food or you are making your own food, or you're the slacker eating mama's dinners. Books that you will never open is another cost, but--what else? Are you paying for the proffesors to work? I'm just baffled by the insane amounts of money college is and then the immense debt you are drowing in afterwards. It makes me think--is it worth it? Is college worth it? Well yeah, if you want to make a decent living. But for the first 10 or so years that you are working at the job college prepared you for, you are making money to pay off your debts! Why spend thousands on a school where your average class sizes are in the hundreds? Why spend thousands of dollars on a school where proffesors don't know your name, and write on chalkboards? That is why I am here. On Progressive U (what is this anyways?) to hopefully get a scholarship. Because I am a broke high school up-comming senior, wanting to go to a nice college where proffesors will know my name. And I can't do that without applying for numerous scholarships. I wish all of you luck. And please continue to read my blog.

Yea it sucks to pay that much money... but its somewhat reasonable. Your dorm expenses may be a little higher than an apartment would cost (I know mine were) but, its around how much you would pay to live off campus. The difference is is that you are taking out loans so you can worry about actually paying for college after you graduate. When you live off campus you pay a monthly rent with utilities. You pay that upfront. The thing that makes college expensive is that your piling 4 years of expenses into one sum.
Tuition is how the professors get paid. Tuition helps keep the campus maintained, pays the professors, and the bills the college has to pay like electricity, water, sewage, gas, and all the other lovely utilities it needs.
Books are expensive but, I found out that you can usually figure out in the first week of classes if you really need a certain book. If you think you don't, then return them and share with someone.
You can also make your professors know who you are by keeping in close contact with them. Ask questions and exceed all expectations so they will notice you. They will eventually call you by name.
Oh, and students who live at home aren't slackers. They just might not have all the opportunities that some of us have. Or they might be really smart by living at home and saving money.
