Upon recent interest, I have been asking myself one question. Who really holds power in Iran. The Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is picked by Iran's Assembly of Experts. Elections for positions with in this body are held every 8 years. This body is almost entirely dominated by Conservatives. In the past, reformists held some power, but Khamenei has not allowed many reformists to be on the ballot.
Iran holds "free" elections. The parliament (majilis) is elected by popular vote every 4 years. All bills must be approved by the Guardian council which is a group of 12 leaders who hold a large amount of power. 6 are religious leaders and the other 6 are students of the law.
The president is popularly elected. Presidential candidates must also pass through inspection of other parts of the government, including being deemed acceptable by the Supreme Leader. Current President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad won the election in 2005. There is controversy behind this win because came in a hotly contested runoff. previous to the runoff, for a time the president had been loosing, and suddenly close to a million votes for him appeared. He replaced reformist President Mohammad Khatami. Presidents can only serve 2 consecutive terms of 4 years each
Now my question for you is who holds the power in Iran?

the whole Iran situation just gets me fuming...the biggest part of the issue...is that we don't hold any power there...I wish I could find it...but I actually had a guy in the FBI send me an article during debate season in which the guy that invented the national intelligence estimate (that the government was wrong on ) is basically a convenient way for the govt. to lie to us...with that said...no one is going to let a nation of liars hold power in foreign territory...so regardless of who holds power in Iran...we have none which means that if the corrupt powers decided to destroy us...we are gonna be hurting...bad
