Beginning September 17, 2008 the LEAGUE will launch the One Day event. The LEAGUE is a national youth service non-profit organization that empowers educates and engages young people to make a positive difference in their communities.
To kick off this school year’s events we’re asking our high school users to get their school involved with ONE DAY. The LEAGUE’s ONE DAY Event is a "servathon" where students identify, organize and plan a service project that meets a need in their community, and sign up friends and family to sponsor them (if they choose) in advance. Students can create their very own service project such as visiting seniors, tutoring peers, or cleaning up neighborhoods. ONE DAY starts September 17th and runs through October 8th.
ONE DAY starts the beginning of The LEAGUE 2008-2009 event season and then comes THE DRIVE, The LEAGUE’s annual holiday food and clothing collection. Exciting for this year THE LEAGUE will be offering a scholarship, through the generosity of the John S. and James L. knight Foundation; students will be using journalism to highlight the positive impact they are making in their communities. All of these events will take place throughout the 2008-2009 school year.
Because the LEAGUE is aimed at the K-12 demographic, college students aren't eligible to participate in their event. That, however, should not stop you from doing your part and getting involved in a community service project during the One Day event.
ProgressiveU is as much about getting involved as it is about discussion. We hope you'll take a few hours of out of your schedule during the next few weeks and spend some time helping your community in whatever way you feel is best. We also hope that you'll share those experiences with us.
From September 17, 2008 until October 8, 2008, we ask that you blog about your experiences and tag them with the "One Day" heading. We encourage you to include photos of your experiences for our members and to get creative with your post. We not only want to know what you did, but we want to know how you did it, why you did it, what you learned from it, and how you'll continue to serve your community. In other words, we want all of the details!
On October 9, 2008, we will go through the entries and the top 3 will earn a spot on the ProgressiveU Outreach page. One entrant will also earn their choice of item from the ProgressiveU store.
