A shooting. 45 minutes away from my house. There is no way.

northern illinois shooting. : c

I come home from school and turn on the television just like any of day. Nothing is new about this Thursday except it's Valentine's Day. Gosh knows, I don't have one of those.. so it's just Thursday. I turn on the television and wait for Jeopardy to be over; so I can watch the news as I have always done recently at four since starting my government class. "Current events are how we teach from our mistakes, without them we are lost," exclaimed my government teacher the first day. So anyway, back to my normal Thursday afternoon. Well turns out it's not so normal. "We interrupt this programming to bring you important breaking news." There was a supposedly shooting at Northern Illinois. Students are urged to stay away from Kings Commons area and stay inside. WHATTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT! Two of my close guy friends and numerous other friends go there. It can't be. Not at Northern, things like this don't happen so close to home. That's on the otherwise of the country, but not even a year after. I have been to Northern. I have walked past King's Commons. This can't be happening. My friends. oh my gosh. My first reaction.. are they okay? I call them up and no answer. Finally, I send them a text message and I get a response. Everyone I know is okay. The news comes back on, other people weren't so lucky. My prays and sympathy goes out to those families and friends who were directly and indirectly effected by the tragic at Northern Illinois on Valentine's Day 2008.

How could this happen again? Not even a year after Virginia Tech and we have another school shooting. Why does this keep happening? What kind of society is the United States turning into? That kid's are just teaching to better themselves with higher education, but they have to fear for their lives while doing it. Why do people feel that their life is so terrible that they have to end it, but along the way kill innocent people? Why couldn't we figure out a way to help those kids before they did terrible things? The worst of it all is it's not just schools. Not even a month before, there was a shooting in Tinley park about 35 minutes away from where I live. Five people were killed and there are no suspects.... I believe in the right to bear arms for protection, but I believe in stricter gun laws to help prevent attacks like this from happening. How ironic is it? The thing that we have to protect us, ends up killing innocent people.

My prays and thoughts go out to anyone who has ever been effected by a shooting of any kind whether small or big; especially the Lane Bryant, Northern Illinois, and Virgina Tech shootings.

They whine and complain about gun restrictions and how they suck so much. Frankly, this blog might get it through their thick heads that, frankly, we don't have enough gun control laws in this country.

There were four campus shootings within a week this week; the most people just died from this one. The thing I hate is how the media prostitutes it all over the place, falling all over themselves to come up with catchy phrases for it lik e"The Valentine's Day Massacre" and whatnot.

My prayers are with your friends. This sort of thing really, really shouldn't be happening.

Well maybe they just want to raise awareness, it is kind of like naming your blog. The most flashy, preverted, odd, unusual, or werid topics get read the most. But you are right it is kind of sick. I am kind of scared what will happen in the future. I thought all schools were trying to make their campuses safer, but if there have been four shootings in this last week, they probably aren't doing a very good job.

the thing with gun control is that the man who shot everyone had those guns legally, even if you took all the guns away people would still be hurting other people....we need to start looking deeper than the surface and see that there is a reason why people are doing this not how.

that does make sense I never thought about that before. I just hope that schools will do something about this.
