Why You Don't Interest Me

It seems that as each new member becomes acclimated to ProU, they feel it necessary to post SEVERAL blogs about what they did that day.  Or how they'd never had a blog before.  And quite honestly, how do you expect us to read these and not delete them?

I can click any blog on the site and decide to delete it.  It's not hard.  Quite easy, actually.  I can unpublish blogs.  I can do most anything to any blog.  But what I cannot do is read these insipid cookie cutter blogs.

If you would like to tell the world about what you did today, please, move on to LiveJournal.com or MySpace.com or Facebook.com or any one of the numerous websites out there that allow you to keep an online diary.  However, on ProU, you're competing for money.  Turning off your readers because you post 100 times a day is no way to win.  Posting blogs about how your boyfriend just broke up with you is not how you win.  We are blogging for progress.

Now, I will admit that I will let some blogs that I don't quite think belong slide by.  For instance, blogs concerning bulemia and anorexia.  I don't think that those things need to quite be posted here, but they've got an audience.  So, you know, if you've got one of those "diseases" you should probably post a blog on it and get lots of reads, ratings, and comments telling you how sorry everyone is for you.  Maybe I should post one?

But I digress, The point of ProU is to provide an outlet for the logical and analytical audience.  People like DB who post completely researched, well written, amazingly factual blogs seem to get a ton of reads.  And because many of his posts deal with God, he gets a lot of comments.  And he takes as much time as everyone else on here (and then some, I'm sure) to read every blog that he comes across and leave his $.10.  And you know, I can't bash that.

However, there are other users, whom I won't name, feel it necessary to misspell every single word, slaughter the english language, and basically act as if they never learned to read.

In the end, I urge all users out there, young and old, to check your sources, don't type in ALL CAPS (BECAUSE IT'S ANNOYING), and try to be a better blogger.

but thank you nicholas aden for making it a point to let us know that it is not right for us to butcher our own thoughts and opinions by not spell checking or editing, in the end, it hurts us.
and also, you are right that we should blog about topics if we have enough knowledge to write about that matter which is why DB has become one of my favorite bloggers

if i as an immigrant who came to the US can write perfectly well and not butcher the english language then why can't native speakers do the same (the few who are messing with my eyes and adding to my mental strain when i already have too many other things to worry about}

I agree, but they have every right to post whatever they want.
I guess we will have to deal with it and just not read it.

That kind of mentality is what let Hitler come to power. I'm not even kidding. The "we can just deal" mentality, the "someone else will fix it" thought process...That's how Hitler came to power.

No, not quite because these are just people posting how they feel or whatever. freedom of speech. we can't just say that they are less important because of what decide to write about. whatever they feel is important to say is still important to them and that is what matters

peacelovechange's picture

You are actually more similar to Hilter.
Censorship- Not wanting the people to post what they want...that's being opressive, much like Hitler.

asmaw's picture

he is saying that people need to start posting intelligently without scrweing up and butchering the english language

"Pride is concerned with who is right. Humility is concerned with what is right."

I was saying that people needed to learn to spell and to post things relevant to the purpose of this site. I wasn't trying to censor people. If they want to post stuff that is irrelevant to this site, I told them where to do it. Read my blog...I've established myself as being against censorship...

well if they are writing things irrelevant none of us have to read them, and they aren't going to be the ones who really get anything out of this.

They diminish the quality of this site and make a mochery of the entire process. It doesn't matter if I can ignore (I can't) them. I try and read EVERY blog that gets posted between when I log on and when I log off. When I have to read 6 blogs by the same person over a span of 3 hours, I'm bothered. When I have to read 12 blogs that are 101 words long and none of those 101 words are correctly spelled, I'm bothered.

As a member of the majority of groups that help to keep this site up and running, it is my responisbility to keep tabs on who posts and what they post so I can help to better the site.

I would be bothered, too. I see your point and am sorry I misinterpreted what you were saying.

How about not calling me a Nazi next time.

I think the whole thing's been a misunderstanding. I didn't call you a Nazi, I only said that the mentality you stated was the prevailing thought process when Hitler came to power. No offense meant by it, only saying it was a backwards way of thinking.

It was a misunderstanding, and I'm sorry for it. I misunderstood what you were talking about and I thought you were complaining just for fun.

peace always,

Sure, you can post whatever you want. We just reserve the right to delete it. We make our policy on the site quite clear. If you plagiarize, your post gets deleted. If you post something attacking another member of the site, your post gets deleted. Etc, etc. Call it censorship all you want, but we have the right to do it, cause we're not the US government, but a site with a clear terms of service that you agreed to when you signed up for an account, whether you read it or not.

I agree blogs should be about important things. The people that butcher the English language, what if they truly don't know they are doing it.(or they could be a horrid typer)

A bad typist does not a illiterate make. If you type poorly, take your time to type the words correctly. Typing classes work pretty well for improving this type of thing.

If you truely don't know that you're butchering the English language, may I suggest that the internet may not be the best environment for you? There are many classes (on and offline) that would allow you to better your ability to read and write and therefore type.

One nice thing about ProgU is it's built in modicum of readership as opposed to say Blogger or *gag*my (empty head) space or getting your own domain name and all the rest of the stuff that that takes, which is great because people will actually read your blog and it puts you in the spot light. That there is a real chance that people will actually read what you write keeps you writing in a comprehensive style and not just so you can remember stuff or sentiment of previous days. Like a journal or personal log can tend to be.

Way back in 1999 or 2000 I came across someone's, what was called back then web log or web journal and thought; Wow someone is basically putting their diary, which was something I considered should be privated away from the eyes of the world, out there for the rest of the world to see. This blog like other blogs I found was a mixture of trivial daily happenings, poetry and just pure sentiment.

Why should ProgU be different?

I actually never posted an introduction here - I just posted a semi-progressive blog, and proceeded to comment on many others. I think I've only posted six or seven blogs in my.....several weeks of membership, because I like what I've said to be well-planned, thought out, and meaningful to at least myself, if not at least one other person.

I once had someone completely chew me out because I requested that they not post their entire blog in all caps becasue it's hard to read. I explained that it is the responsibility of a writer to make their works understandable to their readers. The response? "I don't have to if I don't want to."

Yeah, I never could understand why people leave blogs about their day. Unless the evnt in their day has to do with progressivism, who cares?
