I was speeding into work this afternoon, running late and pushing my poor little car harder than I should have. I look up and my heart sinks. Gas is almost 4 dollars a gallon!!!! I can't even believe this! It is so crazy and messed up and it makes me want to scream!
Then I look down.....I have less than a quarter of a tank....guess I'm going to have to go after I get off work and put all the money I just made right into my tank to get me to and from work for the next two or three days. How can anybody get by...let alone get ahead...like that?
I just feel like I keep striving and working and trying and struggling to get financial independence and the closer I get the more gets piled on me until I eventually break back down.
Depressing
I have been working at my current job for exactly one year. It was so exciting when I got it! I make 11 dollars an hour. Last year I was so happy! 11 dollars was amazing! I was making so much more money than any of my friends. I got my savings account balance up. Funny as it sounds I really thought of myself as living the high life.
Now? 11 dollars? It's nothing!
Not when gas is 4 dollars a gallon!
I work an hour and can't even buy 3 gallons of gas!
Insane!
Depressing
I keep fighting to get out.....and they keep pulling me back in....
debt, I mean.

I am 17 and scared to death on how I will make it through college. I mean sure I have the grades to get scholarships to cover the actually education part, but I would like to be able to come home and visit, get out and have fun, and go shopping every once and awhile but shoot I mean I dont wanna have to work full time my first year in college!! and med school, I mean i would love to go but can i hang on that long for a real pay-check?? we will see!!
At the current rates, riding the bus is much more economically efficient than driving. If you use 2/3 of a gallon of gas a day commuting, you will save money by riding the bus to and from work. That's 2/3 of a GALLON, not a tank. You might spend a little more time on the bus, but I find that the ride gives me an excuse to read. I stock up at the library and I LOVE that 40 minute window of zero responsibility!

Unfortunately no...not an option for me. Rural Montana is to blame for that. Miles from home to work and no bus that does the highway! :(
Not much you can do, then. But change your air filter and your fuel filter, and make sure your tires are inflated to their maximum recommended capacity. That will help a little bit.
I'll be vacationing in rural Montana this summer!
Also, check out Green Underbelly's blog. He's another Montanan! Montanite? Montana person? What ARE you people called?

i live in a very small town, and my high school is even smaller. I dont work, I am only 17 and there is no bus system in place in my town. It is small enough I could walk everywhere that I go, and although it is a strain with gas prices now, I am simply worried about my distant yet near future.
I think we usually go with Montanan. Where in Montana are you heading for your vacation?
