My Summary:
Farmers Branch of Texas has schemed it's own law of renting apartments to non-citizens. Landlords are required to check renters of citizenship or legal immigration of the U.S. If the Landlord is caught renting to an illegal then he or she will have to pay up to $500 per day the illegal resident stayed. “A legal challenge” has to be resolved before a federal judge can completely enforce this voter-approved law.
...I agree that Landlords should have to pay a fine for letting illegals (non-citizens) to stay here in the U.S. The illegals DON'T have to pay taxes and yet they get welfair and other free health care systems that we as citizens pay for through our own tax dollars. I'm fine with LEGAL immigration...it's the ILLEGAL ones that irriate me.

that's nice, but where do you suppose illegals live? They may have to go to your neighborhood homeless shelter. Oh wait! Taxes pay for that, too!
The fact is, most people oppose illegal immigration, but the difference we see in ideology is that people either 1) realize that people are coming illegally and will do so no matter the circumstance -or- 2) live in a fantasy world and think that if the laws are tougher, it will deter people from coming
I'm sort of surprised this law wasn't put into affect some time ago.
Why are you surprised?
Do you think leases are the proper tools to enforce immigration law?

Dear BNel,
I am an illegal immigrant.
As most of the people in my situation, committing any sort of welfare fraud would be the last thing I would ever do.
Most of us just want to stay under the radar. Why would we expose ourselves to scrutiny and arrest by committing welfare fraud, voting fraud, or any such folkloric things they accuse us of?
By the way, I pay as many taxes as any legal resident. The only difference between you and I is that I will never collect any of those tens of thousands of dollars I already contributed to Social Security, and you will.

PS: The mantra "my problem is not immigration, but illegal immigration" got old probably the second time it was used, some 2.000.000 years ago. Please come up with something more original.
