Hi all! It's me, your favorite blogger in the blogosphere here to drop some information for all those wishing to participate in the new contest. As head of the contest and a long time player of FantasyCongress.com, I have some bits and pieces that could help everyone. No, I will not tell you who's best, but I will tell you how to play, how to get sign up, etc.
So, let's start from the beginning as that seems to be a sensible place to begin:
- Signing Up
- Go to FantasyCongress.com and click the large blue button labeled "Start Here: It's Simple"
- Click Sign Up (duh....)
- Select "I just want a normal account, I wish I were still in school."
- Now fill in all your information and click "Agree."
- YOUR USERNAME FOR THERE AND HERE MUST BE THE SAME TO GET POINTS! Is that stressed enough?
- You're not a contributing member to society.
- Joining the ProU Leagues
- Make sure you're logged in on FantasyCongress (henceforth FC) and open a new window/tab to ProU. Visit the bonus op page and find the link for the appropriate League (as in, League 1. If League 1 is full, join League 2...so on so forth). Select that link and it should open a new window/tab/page where it will show you who's already joined.
- You should now see a rather large red button that says "JOIN this league." You guessed it, click that.
- Now, for the number one question that I will hence forth no longer answer: THE PASSWORD IS PROGRESS.
- Now you're ready to draft your team.
- Picking the Team
- Find your way to the place where you can draft your very own team of congressmen. These lying, cheating, scandalous bastards are going to help you win a shit load of points. Pick the ones you know will:
- Be in the news
- Make a mess of things
- Pass laws
- Cosponsor laws
- Vote against all the other members.
- That's all I am going to say on this topic. The whole thing is pretty intuitive, but if I notice that someone is not quite getting any points (and yes, I am in both Leagues with 0 points. I have to be.) I will try and let them know via a PM on ProU.
- Find your way to the place where you can draft your very own team of congressmen. These lying, cheating, scandalous bastards are going to help you win a shit load of points. Pick the ones you know will:
- Winning
- Trading congressmen around on a semi-regular basis can help you win a good amount of points, but it can also be like Russian Roulette. Sometimes you get the bullet. For example, Biden was doing really well one week, so I dropped one of my previous choices and drafted him. However, he stopped doing well and my drop got better. It's all a game of guess and check. The important thing is to not just win points. Just waiting around will not help you win the bonus point max of 4.5k.

HI. are the points that will accumulate from fantasy congress just for that website or will it count for scholarship points on this one?
The points you earn there will have no bearing here until the end of the contest when I break down the earnings by everyone and run it in a bell curve. Basically, you'll get a total of 2000, 3000, 4000, or 4500. Only 1 person gets the 4500.

I am almost always available. I keep an RSS feed open to every blog I post and can see what's being posted when. As I just started this tonight and expected a lot of drama to occur (and it has, people have been joining the wrong groups, complaining about the inability to find their password, etc.).
So I will make on final announcement: If you try to join the ProgressiveU Leauge on FC, you will not be able to. It is password protected by an A-Team only password. That is where we are working out how the site works, considering how this is all going to be done, etc.
On the other hand, if you're trying to join the BfP Contest 1 of BfP Contest 2 leauges, you will find that the password is Progress. It is nothing else. If you can't join, that is through fault of your own. P-r-o-g-r-e-s-s. People have joined both; I know I didn't make a typo.

I think the idea is to blog about what you've learned about Congress, your favorite issues... that sort of thing. I'm not really running this one, so I can only speculate.

Yup. Just anything you find out. FC makes sure to keep up on all legislation that moves through Congress, so odds are, someone playing is going to know about it before someone who's not.

I just joined the League 2 like a few seconds ago.
But there is no one listed for the active member.
I don't know what to start off with, where to post my comments etc.

Ok, calm down. There are no active members because the contest hasn't started. This week is for signing up, but as of 10/1 (October 1) points will start to accumulate.
You start off by drafting your team and then you're done. When the first comes back around, check your team, check other teams, pick better players, etc. If you wanna post comments, here works. There should be a forum just for it later on, but there isn't now.

I'm just as not used to this whole blog thing you know. But thanks to people like you who wilingly help out others! haha
I'm running this little contest, so I get to pick up the tab, so to speak. None of the other A-Team members had used it before, so I got to explain, think, create, work, and read EVERYTHING. And it's just amazing to see that ProU users are making the treck and joining up. I want it to be a long haul for me. Make me work!
You have to remember, I am going to bell curve the final scores before awarding points. It should be pretty cool, but it's going to require that I know who get's how many. So long as we all play by the rules, It should work well. To play by the rules, you typically have to know what they are.
Now you know why I willingly help.
