Jordan walked into the classroom, where my friend Abbie and I sat, peacefully working on our art projects. Jordan quickly exchanged hello's with us, and began a conversation with Abbie. Jordan had come from the neighboring classroom, which was also an art class.
After ten or so odd minutes of Jordan skipping out on her class, Mrs. Madison, the teacher, came to retrieve her student.
"Jordan, you need to come back to your class now."
"No."
"Jordan, class hasn't ended, you need to come back to class."
"No. I'm talking with HER. (As she notions towards Abbie)
"You're not supposed to be in this classroom. PLEASE, go back to the room."
"FINE, there was no need to throw an ATTITUDE."
Mrs. Madison looked my way, and to my surprise, put on a smile, and said to Jordan:
"Neither did you."
Jordan stomped off back into her classroom. Mrs. Madison followed her, with that same smile on her face as i had seen earlier, as if that whole thing were just a joke.
I sat there in shock of what i had just seen. Had the concept of respect COMPLETELY flushed itself down the drain, to the point where this kind of "talk back" towards teachers is acceptable? To the point where teachers just take this teenage angst on their backs, to the point where Mrs. Madison was able to SMILE after such a disrespectful come-back?
What happened in these past few centuries? The word respect has come to lose ALL of its meaning. Today in psychology class, we were told to come up with a list for everything that describes "Abuse". The class rattled off millions of things. But then we were asked to come up with a similar list for "Respect", and the class was silent.
It is so crucial for people; teens, preteens, and adults alike, to be reminded about the importance of respect and how in no way possible, should respect be viewed as something that is only saved for the 'creme de la creme', VIP people. Everyone deserves respect, and everyone should stop and evaluate how respectful they are, versus how they should be.

the loss of respect that our generation has is a huge problem.
i mean the degradation of morals is a huge factor in this.

AGREED. There just isn't enough being done to teach about respect anymore. (In parenting as well).
