After another college visit and here the same spiel that is always given I began to seriously wonder about what college is going to be like for me. That’s right I’ll be in college in less than 6 months and only now am I starting to think this.
Part of me imagines myself going to loud crowded parties with lots of easy girls; waking up hung-over with some skank staggering over to the toilet only to be reminded of a night of unprotected anonymous sex by a the burning feeling in my pecker. But that’s not me, not me at all.
Another part of me pictures myself lying on my dorm bed reading trade paper backs completely obliviously of the best years of my life flying by. I really hope this doesn’t happen.
There seems to be so much uncertainty but, perhaps there isn’t. I do not party but I am not a complete recluse. As an engineering student I won’t have as much free time as all of the undeclared majors or social science majors. My economics teacher keeps telling me about all of his free time but, he was a social science major. Perhaps college will be as good as everyone keeps telling me. It will be good, it has to be. It cannot be any worse than high school, so there is a plus.
*This is very pedestrian compared to some of my other postings but I felt like I had to get it off my chest*

Just got into college with an open mind and be ready to enjoy the experience, and I'm sure you'll have a good time.
College will be exactly like high school if you hang out with all your high school friends. Except their will be more drinking and freedom.
Also, being in engineering does not mean no free time. I have plenty of free time and a 4.0.
I'm not a partier. I knew I wouldn't be. I'm not a drinker and I don't do all those things and it's so ridiculously easy to say no. I'm enjoying college and doing what I like and I think that as long as you don't expect college to be a certain way and try to make it that way, it'll all be fine. Most people enjoy their college experience. Just try to get to know people who are like you and whose values coincide with your own.
You won't know what it will be like for you until you get into your first semester. I certainly didn't expect to have so much free time. Even though I have a ton of projects and plenty of classes, I still have hours of free time everyday.

The first year, if not your second is usually based around GE classes, so you won't have any more or less free time than anybody else, unless your college is different than most. You don't have to be an extreme either! It isn't one or the other, you can do whatever you want... and that is the best part. There are clubs, fraternitys (academic, cultural and regular), and there are new people. You can meet new people try new things, it is great.
In all honesty though, it all lies in your hands. You can choose to do whatever you and when you want. So I hope you choose something that will make your college experience what you want it to be. :]
Although I can't totally relate to regular college life because I take online classes I enjoy it. It is alot of hard work but it may be different for people who actually attend college and go to classes. I like it alot because I have anxiety and being around people makes me do worse (grade wise) in class. People think since I take online classes it is much easier, but it definately isn't. The college actually didn't recommend that I take online classes because I was a freshman. I took a year off before entering college because my mom passed away. Everyone told me you won't go if you take a year off but I proved everone wrong, plus it wasn't my choice. I believe you will do fine in college just stay positive and it will work out!
