The new Gun Law
O yea, of little faith. Mayor Frank Jackson of Cleveland,Ohio feels the new gun law will help our streets fight the high number of crimes we seen in our country. [2] There needs to be more than just a change in gun laws. People that have registered guns are not criminals. It is the people on the streets carrying illegal firearms that are the problem. "In this year there have been an 26.5% increase of homicides using firearms in cleveland.
The evidence room at the Cleveland Police Department is overflowing
with more than 19,000 weapons confiscated during a growing number of
arrests."[3]The Buckeye Firearms Association is one of the many non-supporters of this new legislation stating that it is "knee-jerker". There are many more issues that are part of the problems we face in Cleveland,Ohio sliding economy.
"In 2006, Cleveland police confiscated 1,173 guns, 1,045 of them hand
guns, a 10 percent increase from the year before.Of those guns, 22 percent were taken from suspects ages 18 to 21, and
9 percent were in the hands of juveniles."[3]. The information aquired for the buckeye Firearms Association proves that minors with guns are not the biggest problem. According to my calculator 22% of 1,173 still leaves 915 guns left on the streets.
It really bothers me that the crime turns into this inner-city dynamic so easily. This is a world problem. There are gun problems in every state. People want to kill other people. But why in my city?
