In the spirit of the holiday..

St. Patricks day is a day that is indeed loved by all Americans, but do you know that the Irish think this holiday is a waste of time? They see it as a day for Americans to get drunk and have a reason for not remembering their night. This original "holy day" for the Irish has turned into a drunken party for Americans. In Ireland until the 1970's the pubs were closed all day long, now things have changed. This Irish originally would attend church in the morning and have a feast of Irish bacon and cabbage, and would not waste their day on the consumption of alcohol. The day was in memory of St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, is one of Christianity's most widely known figures. But for all his celebrity, his life remains somewhat of a mystery. Many of the stories traditionally associated with St. Patrick, including the famous account of his banishing all the snakes from Ireland, are false, the products of hundreds of years of exaggerated storytelling. These tales have grown and in America this holiday is taken advantage of. It is also been said that Americans want to make it a national holiday. To me all this would accomplish would be a day of complete drunkenry.
