so i know its hard to truley have an original post about an original topic..everyone cares about similiar issues and everyone wants to speak their minds about it but is it necessary to read a post and make another post on the exact same topic right after you read it. could we atleast wait a day or two before writing exactly what was just said two minutes ago..
i've also noticed that people seem to do alot of spin offs on other peoples topics. For example i wrote a post on some inappropriate comments a guy said to me....then hardly 10 minutes later someone who posted a comment on my blog wrote their own blog about the ways of men and why they say what they say....????????
i love reading what people have to say. which is the whole point of a blog but at the same time i don't feel like im really seeing into someone elses thoughts when i know they are just reiterating someone elses words. and if its really important to you..wouldn't you want it to be read on its own...without someone elses post already there to out do yours?
im definitly not trying to be nasty but seriously...has anyone else noticed this?

Things tend to be rather... repetitive during the first month or so after the contest starts. After that, a lot of people just stop posting, and the quality of posts goes up a lot.
On another note, spin-offs aren't always a bad thing. Now, I get annoyed to no end when someone posts a blog that might as well have been a comment on another blog. But sometimes, when reading one blog, I actually think about a spin that hasn't been done on the topic before, or such a tangent that it doesn't feel right to leave it as a comment. So, I blog about it instead. Doesn't happen to me much anymore, because I don't blog as much, but still...

It is hard to write an original blog. It's easier though to write a similar but BETTER blog. For instance, instead of blogging about how you think gay marriage should be allowed (for instance, no idea what your opinion is), you could do a study about countries in which gay marriage is legalized and the effects there, how it ends up working out, etc, and use that to strengthen your position. That's somewhat more original... and if you're actually including sources, you're already doing better than most of the bloggers here.
oh i agree that there are better ways to write a blog...im just saying if a person does find something better to write about when dealing with similar topics...just write about it tomorrow instead of right after you read someone elses blog on the topic. that way your topic is not being read the same time someone elses is....it takes away from the effect your trying to make :)
There have been several times when I've done what you call "spin offs". However, it's usually because my comment makes me think of a slightly different thing. I might focus on an aspect of a topic that the other blogger did not. Other times I will repress this urge because I think my post will end up being too similar.
However, it's quite difficult to write a completely different blog. Soon I will post a blog where I give some ideas on writing an original blog, but even I fall back on easy topics sometimes.
