Chipping Away

My students run water like crazy while washing dishes, brushing teeth, etc. They put a couple articles of clothing into a whole washing machine load. They blast the air conditioner while having the windows open, and they constantly leave lights on.

I’ve been working hard (sometimes seemingly in vain) to try to get them to change their wasteful ways. Slowly, it seems to be working (on at least some of them). It might start with one shared load of laundry, two lights turned off, and who knows? May grow into a revolution! Ok, maybe not, but I’ll keep chipping away.

I’m sure they’re not alone in these bad habits. Developed nations (especially America) use waaaay more of the earth’s resources than we should be.

With so many problems in the world today, it’s easy to feel hopeless, and difficult to figure out what to do. Sure, maybe it’s not an easy thing to find solutions to war, famine, and disease. However, we can do our parts to try to make this world a better place.

Every action matters and every voice counts. Do what you can to save energy, conserve, and spread the word. If we each do our part and encourage another person to do their part as well, huge progress can be made regarding some of the world’s biggest issues.

Conserve. Make Earth-friendly choices. Volunteer. Be aware. It can all be a lot easier than you think.

If we'd all keep chipping away, we'd break down some serious barriers. Great post.
