How many times a day do we put things off?
Whether it's work, or confrontation, or even relationships, most of us put everything on the back burner until the last possible moment.
I've done it, and I'm sure there isn't a person on this planet who hasn't done it before.
But why do we do it? Why don't we just get everything out of the way instead of stressing about it until it's almost too late?
My speculation is that it's fear.
Fear drives us to chew our lips, twiddle our thumbs, and wait it out.
There's fear of refusal, fear of losing everything you worked so hard for, and the worst is the fear of actually making if up your mind. Because... once you've made up your mind, what if you can't go back? What if you didn't make the right decision?
The proverbs inform us, "To suffering there is a limit; to fearing, none."
They tell us that people are riddled with fear, that there is no limit to the amount of fear we can experience.
But what about the other proverbs? Those that instruct us, "Never leave till tomorrow, that which you can do today." "He who hesitates is lost."
These seem to give us a chance, an opportunity, to break out, to make the decision, to do things on time.
We've all been informed, whether it be by parents reprimanding laziness, by grandparents with stories of what could have been, or even by the philosophers who seem to make an attempt to shake us by the shoulders to tell us to take advantage of the opportunities life presents us.
But even with the advice of our peers, elders, and literay gods, at times we just have to travel down the path by ourselves. We have to be willing to make the wrong decision, to suffer the consequences, until we have learned from our mistakes. We have to look fear square into the eyes, and let it know that from this point on, we're not afraid. We're not going to put things off.
We're going to make mistakes, and we're going to be proud of them.
Only then will we understand.
We'll understand that jumping is better than standing on the ground. We'll understand that running is better than walking. We'll understand that even the biggest, worst mistake, was better than putting it off or never doing anything at all.
That's Cool. What's Next?

Procrastination may sometimes be as a result of fear, but fear sure isn't the only cause, there's is also laziness. :)
We push things back because we are scared.
I do the same thing as you state.
Procrastination is kind of a secure feeling.

I know. I do it all the time. I'm doing it right now.
