I’m of the minority and I think pride is one thing, but to be truly equal we have to look pass our skin color and only concern ourselves with what makes us equal. If we as people can't look pass the difference of ourselves to accomplish a greater goal, how can we expect others to do the same? Hey but that’s the key when will we ever as the majority come to this term of realization. The Civil rights movement was to help us have the rights, without worrying about the oppression segregation of others, to become equal. Now its time to move forward and create, I propose, "The Progressive Movement", where we move forward to be equal, without the oppression and segregation created within ourselves and our community. When we truly see ourselves as equals and not just people who deserve equality, In my opinion, then we will be respected by others as equals. We would take the responsibility on ourselves to disprove stereotypes and statistics by not becoming one. We will discourage Racial Identity and encourage "Individual Identity", for the thing that makes us equal is that we are each human individuals.
"The Progressive Movement", "Individual Identity"

I've enjoyed your posts. You seem to have a good mind for philosophy. May be you'd enjoy this lecture on Equality, Justice & Liberty.
Here's the first paragraph as an introduction. Follow the link to read more: http://universityofnowhere.wordpress.com/2006/05/08/public-lecture-2/
"No man is created equal. The idea of equality is merely the effort to reach equality, but man shall never achieve such. For everyone to be equal to one another, everyone must be as perfect as God in term of perfect attributes, since being perfect means to stay at one place forever to eternity, for moving slightly will transform perfection to non-perfection. And since not everyone is perfect, equality is not a reality. For instance, racial discrimination comes forth from the idea of ethnic inequality, in which white supremacist and oriental narcissist center themselves as more perfected creatures. Such point does not demonstrate any fallacy, at least not in any logical way, but it is considered by many ethicists to be incorrect, because of what is called “moral justice”. However, a white man is definitely not equal to a black man, in term of ethnicity, just as a black man is more unique in his own way than a white man. What shall be said of this is that everyone possesses a separate characteristic that does not constitute any equality. Hence, if the Scientist who created the earth and the universe wanted equality to be a reality, then he would have formed everyone in the same way. A white man would have been white. A black man would have been white. Everyone would have been white. Other attributes shall be equalized to every single man on earth. But He did not choose to do so and, therefore, one can deduce His mind and realize that equality is not any reality."
Before I read this lecture, I think I had too vague and idealistic understanding of equality. I equated equality with material things; everyone should have the same amount of $$$ and same access to education. I like that the lecture points out how important it is to recognize diversity and different talents as we try to move to obtain equality for all.

Yeah the lecture was interesting, but it seems to look at the word equality as its term in literal. I look at equality as an idea of not the outside apperence of the person, but the intellect. We are all born and we all die. That is my idea of equality. We all unless ,mentally incapable, are given the abilty to make decisions that control our destiny. We have the choice to study. We have the choice to write poetry that is meant to send a message. We have the choice to learn despite how difficult it may be varying the individual speed at which you learn. We all have the choice to tough it out. We all have the choice to help instead of ignore a person who needs our aid. We have the choice to let others influence our way of thinking. We have the choice to influence. And the list goes on. But this intellect which seperates us from instinctual animals also is what is common among all of us unless we not by choice are mentally incapable.
I think the article just asks you to build on your valid point. You are right that, although we are all unique individuals, we all possess intelligence that can be used to control our destiny, or to help people rather than hurt them. However, my article says one, different people look at the ideas of equality, justice, and liberty differently (sometimes in ways that oppose each other); and two, we as human beings are too ignorant on the subject to really achieve these things. As progressives, we believe that we have a fuller understanding of equality, justice, and liberty than the current status quo. As Progressives, we believe that society can become more equal, more just, and more free if we practice the tenets advocated at Progressive U: broad prosperity, shared responsibility, effective government, and better future.

Easier said than done. It's impossible to be truly equal. Race will always exist, and there's nothing wrong with racial pride.
Yeah it is hard to finally realize; that instead of complaining about what's done to you, {I’m not pointing at any one. Just hypothetically creating a person (for the sensitive readers)}, you can take full responsibility for your actions and who you are and choose not to blame it on things you can't control. Believe me I know. The problems I see is, although we are physically free, we bind ourselves in shackles made with self oppression of the mind.
We underestimate who we really are and what we are capable of doing. One person can change the paradigm of thousands with just will. The hardest thing for me, was changing my mindset about who I was, was accepting that I can't easily run and blame others, but I must blame myself for my reaction to the actions of others. The only person we can change is ourselves. When you change, you can be an example for others to change, you can't change that person you can only be the influence in which that person decides to change. What I've learned, is an action of proactivity.
Yes it’s easier to say but it is each individual's choice to make that decision to do or don't.
I don't get it.
Being Proactive is taking responsibility for your own actions.
Not blaming others for your actions or Reactions.
How you react is your choice. Anyone can choose to react by taking that first step to making a difference. Being proactive means not blaming others for your choice not to make that decision but blaming yourself.
For example: The many times you correct my grammer. Either i can be Reactive and get angry at you for nitpicking. Or i can be proactive and progressively make the decision in improving how I communinicate with others by writing constantly and learning from your criticism.
Accepting that you are capable of great things just by making the choice. Is making the decision to not let your circumstance control you but you control how that circumstance effects you
Firstly, it's "grammar." Secondly, I don't recall correcting your grammar that many times. Thirdly, I just don't get what this has to do with your original post. Either I misread it or I misread it. Let me try again.
I appreciate your correction its better that someone recognize my mistakes so that i can be aware of it. I am not offended at all by it, but I encourage it. It will make me a better writer.
"Practice doesn't make perfect. Perfect practice makes perfect." Something I learned playing musical instruments and this is my "Instrument of thought". How am I ever to get my point across if I can't get it across effectively.
Good boy. I like you.
these are all actions that we need to take on ourselves. To do that, we must change our paradigm, that we are not equal and we are still fighting to gain equality, when the only thing left for us to worry about is how we rise to the occassion in our unfortunate circumstance.
Its my nice way of saying that we as minority underestimate our power to influence. That the sheep will follow any good herder. So its up to us to:
they will stop claming the stereotype and there will not be statistics to work against us. Because we made the decison not to fulfill their expectation because we hold a higher expectation of ourselves
