Don't the ISSUES matter?!

Urgh! I'm SO tired of political party bullshit!! (Please excuse the language) I was watching the news yesterday about how Cheney was saying our economy was the best it's ever been and it's all due to the policies enacted during the Bush administration. Bush is on TV trying to push for the Republican party saying how the Republicans can do such great things for our country and how Republicans need to be elected blah, blah, blah. Why can't people concentrate on the issues!!!! I don't care if you're a Republican or Democrat honestly. Can't we have a Republican who is for stem cell research if it's from aborted babies who are already dead?! In AP government last year we took a quiz to figure out how liberal or conservative we were and if we were a democrat or a republican. I was right in the middle with both of them! I guess that's why all the emphasis on specific parties irritates me so much.

When I'm finally able to vote, this July!!!, I refuse to vote for anyone who has those stupid commercials saying bad things about another candidate. Candidates need to talk about their issues. I want to know what they stand for! I don't care what party they're affiliated with and I don't care what promises the incumbent they're running against didn't live up to. I want someone to persuade me why I should want to vote for them. I don't want them telling me I should vote for them just because they're a member of the same party I'm in, or that they're the lesser of two evils because they didn't accept bribes or WHATEVER.

America needs to have a multi-party system. There needs to be more choices for people than just Democrat and Republican. Our opinions cannot be as clean cut as that. Oh and while I'm at it, let me touch on the process of running for office. In theory everyone is supposed to be able to have the ability to run for political office, president, anything they want. That's not reality though. You either have to have a LOT of support from your political party or you have to be rich enough not to really need to depend on them. This is just not right. I think it would be more interesting if the candidates were only allowed to use a set amount of money for campaigning and all that. When that money was spent, that would be it. Then, we the people, would be able to see how well each candidate can budget their money and what things were more important to them. I know that would never happen but I think it would be a good way for us to be able to see what kind of person our candidates are. Ok I'm done ranting...

I couldn't agree with you more. It is time for more than two choices for people. If more people would forget the "your vote only counts if you vote for either a Democrat or Republican" mentality, things would change. If everyone that thought a third or fourth party candidate would do a better job would actually *vote* for that candidate, the numbers would quickly show that the previously mentioned mentality simply doesn't hold up.

As for your comments on who runs for political office (and wins).... again I agree. More often than not, it comes down to who has more money and/or more backing with his or her own party (so long as that party is Democrat or Republican). It's ridiculous, but yet again too many people refuse to open their eyes and see that it really does work that way. They like to be naive about the entire process though.

I notice that is a huge problem in our country. And yes the multi-party system seems to work well in other countries. Maybe it will work well here too if is ever introduced.
I notice that is the biggest problem with black voters. They will vote, (I can't remember which), democrat or is it republican(?), because historically one was said to be pro-slavery/segregationist while the other wasn't. And then there are other people who, either to show they aren't "racist" or perhaps because they want to support those ideals, will vote a certain way. There are so many more idiodic reasons why people vote for certain parties. Americans have a bad problem with letting the past determine the future. Everyone has something to prove.
Unfortunately, we have a "party over issue" mentality. We would rather support a bad issue and stick to a certain party, than a good issue with another party; esp. if there are or were in the past, certain stigmas attatched to those parties.
I've always kinda thought of it as another way that the gov't/media tries to divide the populace and keep everyone "in check".

Blacks, women, younger people and people from lower income levels tend to vote Democrat and Men, whites and asians, and people of higher income levels and business owners vote Republican. I memorized it for the AP gov't test last year...

Politics is all about bashing whoever we disagree with.

Politics is really interesting to me, but I really get tired of hearing all the stupid name calling. Let's grow up. I'm a straightforward person and I'd love to be in politics one day (I'm only 17 right now) but I'd probably get assasinated or something because I speak my mind. If I DID ever get elected as a Senator (What I'd like to do) I'm sure I'd be in trouble for making people mad all the time because I say what I think. I'm not afraid of irritating people.

I think you'll be more successful in making people mad if you stick with the name-calling. That works with me anyway.
