As promised, today begins our look into the upcoming midterm election. Only 6 more days.. can you believe it?! Today we're focusing our attention on new poll numbers released yesterday by Wall Street Journal/NBC News. This is the final pre-election poll conducted by the two and was distributed to registered voters only.
The results don't look too hopeful for the Republicans.
Who should control Congress?
Republicans- 37%
Democrats- 52%
This 15 point gap reamins unchanged from two weeks ago and is the largest gap recorded in this history of this poll.
Democrats as a majority in Congress?
More favorable- 34%
Less favorable- 25%
Compare that to...
Republicans as a majority in Congress?
More favorable- 19%
Less favorable- 40%
According to the poll, the major issue on everyone's mind this election is Iraq, Iraq, and Iraq...
Removing Saddam from power?
Worth it- 37%
Not worth it- 54%Successful conclusion in Iraq?
More confident- 27%
Less confident- 61%
This the first time 'less confiden't reached the 60% precentile
The thing you have to remember about these polls is that they're not scientific and they don't represent the views of every single American. But still, the results don't look too good for Republicans.

And.. the big story on the election front today is John Kerry's "botched George Bush joke" during a rally in California. Geez... you'd think it was the 2004 election all over again. Kerry did appologize today to “any service member, family member or American who was offended” and regretted his words were “misinterpreted to imply anything negative about those in uniform.”
An interesting, non-scientific poll I found online asked: "The flap over what Sen. John Kerry calls his "botched joke" has prompted the Massachusetts Democrat to cancel a couple of upcoming appearances over the next two days, campaign officials said. Do you think Kerry will help or hurt the Democrats?"
The results...
Help- 7.4%
Hurt- 63%
No difference- 27%
Not sure- 2.4%
