Are Private High Schools really much better than public schools?

Hey

okay i attend a private school right now and i am in the 12th grade. Most of my life (kindergarden through 8th grade) though i attended a public school. I believe that the only difference between the private school that i attend now and the public school that i used to attend is that my private school does teach about Christian ethics and we are required to take 4 years of a Bible class to graduate. to me there are still similarities between the two schools the kids for instance, at my school there is still cussing and behavior problems and talk of fornication and things like that and half the students not wanting to be there because the believe any other place would be much better. I believe that the only difference is that we call ourselves a christian school! don't get me wrong i love my school and i'm happy (maybe one of the only students that is) to be graduating from there. I've heard before that at some private schools the behavior is worse than that at some public schools, maybe that's because at private schools the atmosphere is so strict and sometimes it seems as though they are trying to shove their ethics and what they believe in down their students throats. So i ask this question for students and parents every where to ponder is the private school that you are spending your money for you child to attend really much better than a public school where you don't have to pay thousand dollar tuition fees every month?

I think that an education from a private school can be better depending on the student. In my experience, private schools have a more challenging & quicker paced academic schedule. Also, private schools can teach more broad topics, etc. because they don't have to worry about standardized testing [in Texas we take the TAKS test] thus giving them more flexibility. Anyway, a lazy student will be a lazy student & smart student will be a smart student regardless of where they are.

First of all, we don't refer to sex as fornication (we don't even refer to it as sex most of the time). I'm just kidding. I think the biggest difference is the amount of attention one receives by going to either school systems, as I'm sure your private school is nowhere near as big as the 3,000+ students of Berkeley High (california). But in a way it doesn't really matter how much the education costs or where the funding comes from, as long as the kid is happy going to wherever he or she is going to.

I vastly prefer my private school education, for three simple reasons:
1) there are few students, so I can get a lot more individualized attention from teachers.
2) we move at a much quicker pace and cover things in a more in-depth manner.
3) (this is more related to the fact that I attend an all-female school) we can be a lot more open about women's issues (from women's rights to the horrible nature of PMS) and not have to worry as much about appearances or being "cute and feminine." Nope, we haul our still-comatose bodies in every morning, uniform barely assembled, plaid pajama bottoms protruding from under plaid kilts, hair pulled into something that vaguely resembles a ponytail; some girls fall asleep in the hallway before the day starts, some run around like maniacs. We have fun. Idiotic, demented fun.... between which we take AP and honors classes.

probably the only public all girls high school still left
it wasn't much different than what you are describing...my graduating class had 280 students, most of the students were in 1 (if not 2 or 3 AP classes) and the year that I graduated, they were planning on starting an IB...so basically my point is that it's not only private schools where once can get all these things,

BUT truthfully, private schools just have more money and secure funding if they can always rely on their student body and the money raised through different events---this allows them to cater better to their student's education

There's a private high school in my town where the kids have fundraisers for football. If they raise enough money, they get a day off of school. They get out of school early on some days for no reason other than the staff voted to let them out early. Or they don't come to school because they voted not to. The parents are required to give a donation of $100 or more. All of the money goes to football. Their "theatre" is an english class room. They rent a stage. There is no emphasis on the arts. It costs more money to attend this school for four years than it does to attend some colleges in CA, and they pay for days of school that they decide to cancel on a whim.

Yet they say that they have the better education.

For someone reasons, most kids from private schools are more involved with their schools' activities. Because public schools do not require you to pay a lot of fees, public school students do not appreciate what they have as much. It may be cheaper, but the quality of education and the experience you get from your peers is better in my opinion.

The only reason I am really greatful to be going to a private school is not for the religious teaching (its catholic) or the smaller class sizes, but the demand for everyone to take classes. I have friends in public schools who will never get into various universities, just because thier school does not require them to take the classes. But the time there are seniors they are screwed!! I have taken more than enough classes to get into a university by now, and it makes me feel good knowing that there was a reason for my school to require me to take all these classes to graduate.
