American History X

So last night I finally saw "American History X" and I loved the movie. But at the same time, there was one major thing that disturbed me about the movie. The curb stomping scene really got to me. After I saw the movie, I have been researching a ton of different topics, from curb stomping to white supremacy and many other things. Honestly, I am appalled.

I never realized that America could still suffer from so much racism. I grew up in an area that is joked about as predominantly white and jewish, but in all honesty, we have a variety of different ethnic groups, and I'm friends with someone from each group. So here I am trying to understand where all this hatred comes from.

I can't begin to describe the fear and nausea I feel when I read about these things.

I happen to be lucky enough to live in a sheltered community where people have closed minds but somewhat open hearts. I have never witnessed within my community real racism, and I hope that in my time on earth I am not confronted with such adversity.

In my research of curb stomping, I am absolutely appalled. The fact that people can be so brutal frightens me terribly. And what makes it worse is that as I researched curb stomping, all I learned was that people are sick. I don't believe video games or music or movies make people kill. Believe me, I am not preaching that we need to get rid of violence in the media or anything like that. But why do they feel that it is necessary to put something as disturbing as curb stomping into the game?

For all of you who haven't seen the movie or just are not sure of what curb stomping is....basically what you do is take someone at gunpoint and make them place their mouth on the curb (like they are biting the curb)...next you take your foot and stomp them. This will either shatter their mouth or kill them....how could that not shake someone to the core?

Honestly, as I said...I am not a crusader for eliminating violence in video games. But am I alone in thinking that this is too sick?

It's sick. It feels to me as though there is a difference between WATCHING curb stomping in the context of a movie with a powerful message like American History X, and engaging in it in a video game. It seems gratuitous in the video game, and more intentional, more active. In the film, there is a lesson behind it. It is part of a much more important story. The curb stomping may stand out, but the movie is not about curb stomping.

In what video game do the players curb stomp? That's awful! At least, I believe it to be awful...perhaps there is some overarching lesson to be learned from this game? If so, I'd love to hear what it is.

You know its a gross terrible thing to do but I just realized he sure as hell did not spend long enough in jail. I think this was made before the addition of hate crimes to things like that.

Edward Norton is awesome and the movie says alot too.

The game that has curb stomping is Gears of War or something....and the second one is supposedly even more graphic!! How terrible??

I have seen that movie- but didn't even start watching it on purpose.

I was flipping through the channels and happened to see that exact scene and I was hooked. I,too, could not believe what I saw.
I don't know anything about this game but, to me, even James Bond seems a bit too harsh.

The root of hatred is to be found within “evil management” of public opinion!

Individuals which are driven by hate always lose reason when they find a way to vent what is driving them, especially in situations in which (group) support, alcohol, hard drugs are present.

When coming across an individual which is at his peak while being or representing that which he hates most, turning the switch will most often be the only option left to deal with what one might be facing.

The reason why it is a social reality which inflicts huge amounts of trauma, is because it is socially tolerated, therefore a shameful example of how ignorant an approach is being handled in regard to racism!

Same ignorance is to be found around gay individuals!

To turn the switch is to hope for a quick dead or to push yourself to become more brutal than the one who has lost reason.

People who peak on hatred need to vent in order to obtain (self)confirmation of their beliefs and mind state, one can consider it a rush they can’t control but need to reach in order to get a relief from the buildup frustration they carry inside.

Those individuals are extremely dangerous because they suffer mental illnesses which they can easily hide socially upon whatever platform of living. The easiest way to expose them is by ridicule, it being in many cases the root and source of what they have become and carry inside!

They cannot handle to be ridiculed in a mental power struggle!

The reason why they lose all reason is simple, they have learned to love what they have become, therefore look for any excuse they make up in their own mind to inflict trauma upon others and more worse, obtain a higher rush!

The older they become, the worse their venting will become!

Weird enough, they can be cured when they are socially (contained) addressed properly, but they will forever remain unaffected when witnessing any form of cruelty.

Like some violent video games are exactly "that" what most amongst us are unaware of, "unaffected" youngsters which can easely be switched on whenever there would arise a need to do so socially.

You are getting sleeeeeepy...
