College Guide or Party Guide?

Tagged:  •

I picked up a college guide written by college students for students. It's supposed to tell you everything you really want to know about college campuses around the country. For the most part, I found it really informative...the food, the dorms, etc. The only thing is that in the description of every school there is a section dedicated to finding alcohol on or off each individual campus.

I know that alcohol is available on basically every campus, one way or another. That's obvious. So why would people need to know how to get alcohol or how good a fake ID needs to be before they get to college. Maybe it's just me...but that isn't really going to play a part in which college I decide to attend.

When did going to college to get an education become going to find the best parties?

It is just a sad reality these days. I work in the admissions office at my university and I would say during more than half of the tours I give I have prospective students ask me how easy it is to drink on campus or what the party scene is like. I understand most people are away from their families for the first time and want to experiment but I would be really disappointed if I were a parent reading that guidebook you mentioned.

I agree; it's crazy how the focus of a lot of students, at least those I'm around, is alcohol/party/gambling convenience. It's really sad.
