It is really sad that these two huge fires hit us about the same time of year to the date that the horrendous tragic fire ruined the lives of so many last year. So far 1 civilian has died due to the fires and 4 civilians burned along with 4 firefighters burned, and the fires are still raging through the county with fervor. They have gotten out of control in Ramona and El Cajon and people are being evacuated from their homes for their own safety. While these poor people are being forced out of the houses, those of us in parts of San Diego far away from the fires yet affected by the heavy smoke are celebrating because we have no school tomorrow.
All I can say is that it is really sad that people are celebrating. Sure it is wonderful that we don't have school but we should also be thinking about the one innocent person that died, the firefighters burned trying to stop the fire and those people being displaced from fear for their lives. Maybe instead of being overjoyed by the one less day of school due to other people suffering elsewhere in our city, we should be trying to find and organize ways to help those that have already lost their homes or are in danger of losing them. Maybe for once we should put other people before ourselves and realize that our lives aren't the worst and there are others that need our help.
