Brain Invaders and Aliens: What We Call Our Best Friends

As I sit here listening to Until June's new albumn with the t.v. blaring behind me, I have come to realize I am surrounded by Aliens. That's right, Aliens. They have come into my home, by my own discretion, and invaded my brain. I constantly crave Arby's roast beef sandwhichs and always want to find out what lies in my future and text 555 love to see.
Ok This sounds a little much, right? Not in the least. Everything we listen to, watch, smell, see, hear, feel, touch are aliens. They have become all teenagers in todays society want. They are our best friends.
As defined by Websters Dictionary media is forms or systems of communication designed to reach a large number of people. As defined by the youth of America media is a teenagers best friend where they can communicate with others without leaving their bedroom; a brain invader which tells us what to think and believe in, and the occasional advertisments waiting to make me their product of society. Sounds like an alien to me.
All teenagers want is to discover themselves, explore the world they live in, and figure out what they want in life. The media has come to tell them that. They figure teens can't find those things without a little persuasion, a little nudge. Of course, the media doens't look and acknoledge that teenagers have been doing this for hundreds or thousands of years without their help. It has gotten OOC! For those of you not fluent in "chat speak" that's OUT OF CONTROL!
Ok, raise your hand if you have ever seen a commercial or billboard and not ten seconds later wanted whatever they were advertising. Finding your hand going up? Everyone at some point has. This isn't nessacarily a problem, I mean without the inticing products businesses would have little money. But with as much as teengers have plugged themselves into t.v. all they can think about is buying those products. Who cares about what they believe in or really want, right? WRONG!!!!! For an age group who wants so much to explore and find themselves, they have little to no choice as to what they want.
Following so far? Here is a little recap. Alien brain invaders, aka the media, want to make teengers their own clones. Even the founder of MTV, Brent Bozell, has been quoted to say the youth of Ameirca will be his and MTV will choose what teenagers want and affect how they think. If you ask me, he sounds a little controlling.
Now the big question is, how do we change this? How can we, as teenagers, parents, friends, family, plain jane homosapiens fix this problem? I think if we had the answer to the above questions, I wouldn't have to be writting to you. But we NEED to be thinking of solutions. Less emphasis on television and music would be a good start. Giving teens choices instead of telling them this is what you like and want would be a start. Not letting what the celebrities bound to Hollywood do affect us, would be a start. Take the next step in helping our youth today. We want that freedom of relgion, speech, and beliefs back. Are you willing to kick the aliens and brain invaders out of your head to take back your generation? Believe me....anything is a start.
