Let's get DRUNK!

It's sad to say that there are many teenager that drink alcohol to get drunk for fun, to get rid of pain, or to forget, or whatever other reasons to why they do it. It shows many of us are still immature. They don't realize drinking all that alcohol kills cells...BRAIN cells...which CAN NOT regenerate back or be replaced! Once they are gone, they're gone forever!
I admit I'm drug and alcohol free and have never tried any of that crap. It may sound lame to some people but it shows that I don't need any of that stuff to be happier or deal with my problems. It shows that I'm mature and also I follow the law. I think so teenagers forget that drinking under 21 is ILLEGAL, meaning they could go to jail and pay some hefty fines.
I hate to say this but most of the homeless people on the street are drug addicts or alcoholics. They become so attached to those substances that their life depends on it. It is sad to see them waste away in their bodies. I live in a tiny town of like under 5 thousand people and I see a few bums roam around. I'm afraid to give them money or help them because they do drink and smoke.
There is a reason why car insurance is so expensive for teenagers, just like there is a reason why there is an age limit for buying and consuming alcohol. I don't see any benefits in doing it, find something else to replace it like sports or hobbies, bubble gum, or medical/psychiatric help.

I also think it has to do with the American idea of 'Lets Drink to get Drunk' so we can get that good feeling instead of hey, lets drink. There are places in Europe where teenagers and adults have wine with dinner. And these Europeans do not go to the extremities that I have seen Americans go to. Americans take this whole drinking thing to far. Some teenages I know can drink and not do it to get drunk. They only drink socially or once in a blue moon and when they do, they control themselves in an orderly manner. And then others, most of the teenagers, are doing it to get drunk and do it like every weekend or every other weekend. It's like they plan out when to get drunk and whose house to get drunk at. It's sickening.

I totally agree with your blog! Many teenagers don't understand the consequences and if they do, it took a lot for them to get to that conclusion. The homeless portion of your blog though is not completely untrue but in a way it is. Many homeless people are left on the street because of their addictions, which is very sad, but at the same time many have turned up homeless because of misfortunes. I have personally worked with homeless people in a town and each and every person's story is different to how they ended up homeless. It is just a sterotype to say that ALL of them drink and smoke.

Thank you for correcting me and thank you for helping people who are unfortunate. I wasn't trying to sterotype homeless people because I totally understand not all of them are addicts.

Moderation is the key.

I enjoy drinking. I enjoy getting drunk. I see no harm in it provided I do it in moderation. Atm it's been about a month since I got drunk and about two weeks since the last time I had an alcoholic drink (a glass of wine).

Wow it's really awesome that you enjoy a few drinks now and then and to the point to get drunk. Yeah, I love forgetting what I did last night and puking my guts out too. Moderation is key but drinking to get drunk especially if you're underage is crazy and dumb.

Moderation meaning... I don't drink enough to lose control over my actions. I don't drink enough to forget what happened. I don't drink enough to puke. I have never in my life had a hangover.

Teen pregnancy is bad, mmmkay?

Drinking for fun every weekend or every day is something I hear classmates brag about, but what they don't realize is they are addicts.

Every day is a problem. However why do you think that someone who drinks for fun on the weekends is an addict?

Oh come on people... one drink every once and a while does not make you an alcoholic. Continuously (every weekend, or less) binge drinking does. Nor does every drink kill brain cells. A glass of wine is actually good for you.

That's not to say I'm encouraging people to get drunk, but it sounds like you all are taking it way out of proportion. People also don't drink just to get rid of their problems. They drink to have some fun. Some drink because it's required by their religion.

I've had a few glasses of wine throughout my life. I'm still under 21. Does that make me immature? I hardly think so..

One thing drinking any alcoholic beverages is illegal if you are under 21. Yes, I am also under 21 but I don't find drinking fun or cool. Also there are studies that say that teenagers don't feel the symptoms of drunkeness as quickly as adults so they tend to drink more which impairs judgement even more. There is a reason for that law and drinking for fun is really lame. You need to find better ways to enjoy life.

You make it sound like I go out and get drunk. I have never been drunk in my life. A bit tipsy after a few glasses of champagne, but not drunk. And what is the government going to do? Come raid my mom's house to see if there are any alcoholic beverages? It's not like I go to parties to drink. I drink in a controlled environment (i.e. champagne on new years, the occasional glass of wine with dinner). There's absolutely nothing wrong with that, and it is enjoying life. I also read and like spending time with my boyfriend, similarly enjoying life. Those don't involve alcohol Most of the laws against drinking for people under 21 deal with parties where binge drinking is allowed, or driving in which other parties are involved.

Don't judge me just because you're totally against alcohol consumption.

I don't see anything wrong with people (even teenagers) having a drink once in a while, so long as they're careful, but I really don't understand people repeatedly getting drunk, or what the trill is behind drinking until you puke.

Okay, so what reasons do "mature" people drink for? These are reasons everyone drinks. Also, if we took out some reasons you've listed your sentence would read "It's sad to say that there are many teenagers that drink alcohol {for} whatever other reasons they may do it." Not a very compelling argument.

Haha. Maybe research your topic first:
'Scientific medical research has actually demonstrated that the moderate consumption of alcohol is associated with better cognitive (thinking and reasoning) skills and memory than is abstaining from alcohol. Moderate drinking doesn’t kill brain cells but helps the brain function better into old age. Studies around the world involving many thousands of people report this finding.' Plenty of people don't need alcohol to be happy or deal with problems. You're stereotyping. The vast majority of people who drink are not alcoholics. Also, saying that you not drinking means that you're mature is just false. Whether someone makes the decision to consume alcohol or not has nothing to do with maturity. How one behaves and handles things does.

If anything, I think your narrow viewpoint shows a lack of maturity or naivety about this topic. I really don't mean this in an insulting way either, you are just young. Even if you choose to never consume alcohol after twenty one you'll still grow to get a better understanding on things.

I love how controversial these topics are. Nice researching...I'm sorry if I sounded sterotypical, go enjoy your alcohol. I'm just voicing my opinion and so are you.

Well it's just a lot of your opinion is inspired by current media hysteria. I don't blame you, there are a lot of things that are blown out of proportion these days, and unless you specifically seek out the truth you wouldn't know any better.

Irresponsible drinking IS a problem, and one that affects every age group who drinks. But that's the issue at hand. Don't attack alcohol itself, because the true problem lies in human behavior.
